Diabetes Technology refers to the software or hardware that is designed to facilitate and improve the quality of life of the patient with diabetes Mellitus. A non-systematic literature search was carried out which included articles in English and Spanish about the use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in pediatric patients with Type 1 diabetes Mellitus. This review summarizes the performance of the CGM, its accuracy, and classification. A chronological synthesis of the general evidence up to June 2020 was done including both adult and pediatric studies. Aspects of metabolic control were s

A quality improvement project was carried out in a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which aimed to successfully implement the use of continuous glucose monitoring systems (CGMS) in hypoglycaemic infants. Piloting of the device revealed several potential practical barriers to its reliably successful implementation. Five Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles followed, tackling these problems and other issues inductively identified throughout the project. Parents and multi-professional stakeholders were involved and consulted throughout. Change was measured on a runchart using qualitative an

BACKGROUND: Model-based glycaemic control protocols have shown promise in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) for reducing both hyperglycaemia and insulin-therapy driven hypoglycaemia. However, current models for the appearance of glucose from enteral feeding are based on values from adult intensive care cohorts. This study aims to determine enteral glucose appearance model parameters more reflective of premature infant physiology.
METHODS: Peaks in CGM data associated with enteral milk feeds in preterm and term infants are used to fit a two compartment gut model. The first compartment desc

Diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2) is the most burdensome condition for the healthcare systems worldwide. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is a powerful tool in the management of diabetes that has helped patients with diabetes to achieve better glycemic control as compared to traditional systems. It helps reduce the frequency as well as the severity of hypoglycemia. Continuous glucose monitoring technology is an integral part of the 'artificial pancreas'. This review provides an overview of CGM technology and its applications.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: In this review, we examine the expanding role of continuous glucose monitoring in glycaemic management in primary care.
RECENT FINDINGS: Improving technology and decreasing cost have increased the uptake of use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) for glycaemic management in primary care, wherein most diabetes is managed. Optimized use of this technology, however, will require a convergence of several factors. Availability of devices for people with diabetes, availability of data at the time of clinical interactions, and expertise in interpretation of CGM and ambulatory g

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is a promising, minimally invasive alternative to plasma glucose measurements for calibrating physiology-based mathematical models of insulin-regulated glucose metabolism, reducing the reliance on in-clinic measurements. However, the use of CGM glucose, particularly in combination with insulin measurements, to develop personalized models of glucose regulation remains unexplored. Here, we simultaneously measured interstitial glucose concentrations using CGM as well as plasma glucose and insulin concentrations during an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in in

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensors are minimally-invasive sensors used in diabetes therapy to monitor interstitial glucose concentration. The measurements are collected almost continuously (e.g. every 5 min) and permit the detection of dangerous hypo/hyperglycemic episodes. Modeling the various error components affecting CGM sensors is very important (e.g., to generate realistic scenarios for developing and testing CGM-based applications in type 1 diabetes simulators). In this work we focus on data gaps, which are portions of missing data due to a disconnection or a temporary sensor e

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is used in people with type 1 diabetes to help with insulin treatment regimens. Its value in whole-organ pancreas transplantation (PT) is largely unknown. This study aimed to use CGM to assess the metabolic profile of pancreas transplant recipients in the early post-transplant period. We studied CGM data in 30 PT recipients and related findings to an early oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Complete data were available for 26 recipients. Seven days after a PT, normoglycaemia was present 77.9% of the time. Hypoglycaemic events (glucose <3.9 mmol/l) occurred

NODAT and IGT are well-known complications of immunosuppressive therapy after transplantation being a risk factor for cardiovascular disease affecting patient and graft survival. Therefore, early identification and treatment are of high importance. In this study, we examined the glycemic homeostasis of 20 renal-transplanted children using routine laboratory tests and the continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS). Six patients (30%) had IGT, and one patient had NODAT (5%). The HOMA index was in an abnormal range in 35% of all patients and was abnormal in 67% of the IGT patients. CGMS analysis

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is becoming increasingly popular and represents the third era of diabetes management. Currently available CGM devices have been studied in youth with type 1 diabetes and show similar accuracy across all age groups. Tolerability of these devices relates to alarm settings, sensor skin irritation, and durability of the device. Youth will be most successful on a CGM regimen if they have a personal investment in wearing the CGM device and have a stable support system for their diabetes care. Data indicate that glycemic control improves the most in youth who wear

INTRODUCTION: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) produces rich time series data. Standard metrics such as time-in-range summarize glycemia but miss the sequence of changes. We aimed to characterize glucose dynamics using empirical transition probability techniques.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using publicly available data for 244 participants who enrolled in the Insulin-Only Bionic Pancreas (IOBP2) randomized clinical trial, we mapped each CGM reading to one of five states: < 54, 54-69, 70-180, 181-250, or >250 mg/dL. We counted state changes between consecutive readings collected every 5 minutes

In newborn calves, glucose is the primary energy source, gradually replaced by volatile fatty acids produced by the developing rumen microbiota. Although blood glucose monitoring is essential, there is currently no consensus on optimal measurement methods in calves. Current techniques rely on frequent blood sampling, which is invasive, stressful, and could itself influence glucose levels. Continuous monitoring of interstitial glucose using sensors offers a non-invasive alternative that enables tracking of glycemic fluctuations over several days. This study evaluated the feasibility of using su

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that imposes a global economic burden. Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) results from autoimmune destruction of pancreatic β-cells, while type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is characterized primarily by peripheral insulin resistance with progressive β-cell dysfunction. Despite advances in pharmacologic and self-monitoring therapies, many patients fail to achieve recommended glycemic targets. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has emerged as a transformative technology with the potential to address persistent gaps in diabetes management. This review

OBJECTIVE: Hyperglycaemia requiring insulin infusions is common among critically ill patients. Attempts to tightly control glucose levels in the intensive care unit (ICU) have had mixed results partly due to hypoglycaemia. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has been widely adopted among ambulatory persons with diabetes but tested only on small numbers of patients in the ICU. This study was undertaken to address the accuracy of CGM in a group of critically ill patients.
SETTING AND OUTCOMES: This observational study included critically ill ICU patients admitted between 2019 and 2023 to a tert

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a life-threatening diabetes emergency associated with mortality and severe morbidities in individuals with diabetes. DKA mainly presents with significant hyperglycemia (>250 mg/dL); however, with the increasing use of sodium-glucose transporter 2 inhibitors, we are seeing an increase in euglycemic DKA (euDKA) in both type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Although severe DKA generally requires emergency department services or inpatient hospitalization, clinicians can play an important role in helping patients prevent DKA by providing comprehensive education to thei
