Degradation-coupled antibody conjugates for precision cancer therapy.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are an important class of targeted cancer therapeutics that selectively deliver potent cytotoxic payloads to tumor cells through antibody-mediated targeting. However, the efficacy of some ADCs can be limited by inefficient target protein (e.g., membrane receptor) internalization and lysosomal trafficking, which determine intracellular payload release. In addition, persistent disease-driving proteins sustain oncogenic signaling, promoting tumor progression and therapeutic resistance. Recent advances in targeted protein degradation (TPD) offer a strategy to overco

Perceived overlap and therapy outcomes among couple clients.

This article explores couples' perceptions and expectations of closeness in a clinical setting, and how relationship perceptions and expectations are associated with treatment outcomes. Bowen's theory of differentiation suggests that healthy relationships require a balance of autonomy and connection. However, some research suggests that contemporary societal expectations are pushing couples to expect greater degrees of closeness and less autonomy. Utilizing a clinical sample of 185 couples from an on-campus Couple and Family Therapy training clinic, this article explores couples' perceptions a

Incorporating Multicultural Couple and Family Therapy Into Incarcerated Settings.

Incarceration rates have increased significantly since the 1990s, with more than two million adults in federal, state, and local facilities. More than half of the offenders report a history of mental health issues, highlighting the importance of offenders having access to effective therapeutic approaches, including individual, couples, and family counseling. Traditionally, the focus of mental health services has been individual treatment; however, family members are also significantly impacted by the offender's absence during incarceration. Incorporating family members into treatment can serve

Beyond the Binary: Trans-Negotiations in Couple and Family Therapy.

Dualistic notions about gender and sexuality have permeated the field of couple and family therapy. These binary constructions have been limiting for everyone, especially those who fall outside the male/female dichotomy. This article examines the impact of these binary notions, especially on transgender and gender-creative individuals, couples, and families. Current theory and research in the field as they relate to gender identity, sexuality, and gender minority stress in couples and families are presented. Case examples are used to illustrate affirmative approaches to treatment issues such a

Transforming the legacies of childhood trauma in couple and family therapy.

A multi-theoretical couple/family therapy clinical social work practice model synthesizes various social, family, trauma, and psychodynamic theories to inform a biopsychosocial assessment that guides clinical interventions. The client population involves adult partners who have negotiated the impact of childhood trauma, i.e., physical, sexual, and emotional abuses, including culturally sanctioned trauma. Couples may also be dealing with the aftermath of acute trauma related to interpersonal violence, political conflict, and/or the dislocations related to refugee or new immigrant status. Clinic

Family Systems Intelligence in Couple and Family Therapy-And Beyond.

This paper introduces family systems intelligence as a capacity that extends beyond emotional intelligence to how individuals understand and respond effectively to family challenges in ways that foster personal and relational health. After defining the general concept of systems intelligence, we define family systems intelligence and distinguish between dyadic and multilateral levels. We argue that couple therapy models are sometimes insufficient when couples face issues involving broader family systems. We illustrate these ideas in three domains where third-party dynamics are central: stepfam

Coupled cellular therapy and magnetic targeting for airway regeneration.

Airway diseases including COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), cystic fibrosis and lung cancer are leading causes of worldwide morbidity and mortality, with annual healthcare costs of billions of pounds. True regeneration of damaged airways offers the possibility of restoring lung function and protecting against airway transformation. Recently, advances in tissue engineering have allowed the development of cadaveric and biosynthetic airway grafts. Although these have produced encouraging results, the ability to achieve long-term functional airway regeneration remains a major challenge

Low-level relationship aggression and couple therapy outcomes.

Increasing evidence supports the efficacy of conjoint therapies that focus on intimate partner violence for couples who engage in mild to moderate physical aggression but want to preserve the relationship and end the aggression. However, there has been no examination of how this population responds to couple therapy that does not have a specific focus on aggression. This lacuna in the research literature is of concern because couples with a history of low-level aggression often seek couple therapy, but couple therapy without a focus on violence is thought to potentially exacerbate aggression.

Attachment Behavior Change Following Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy: A Randomized Controlled Trial With Spanish-Speaking Couples.

This study evaluated changes in attachment behaviors among Spanish-speaking couples participating in emotionally focused couple therapy (EFCT), using data from a randomized clinical trial of EFCT in this population. The study examined perceived secure attachment behaviors -accessibility, responsiveness, and engagement- measured by the Brief Accessibility, Responsiveness, and Engagement (BARE) scale, and their association with dyadic adjustment measured by the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS). Seventy couples were randomly assigned to EFCT or a waiting list; two withdrew before beginning the inter

Review of Chinese sex attitudes and applicability of sex therapy for chinese couples with sexual dysfunction.

Although sex therapy techniques have widely been used to help Western couples with sexual dysfunction, there has been little research on the applicability of these techniques among Chinese couples. This article discusses the Chinese views and concepts of sex and sexual dysfunction in the past and present, culturally bound sexual problems, and gender role stereotypes. We suggest that with careful integration of the therapeutic techniques with Chinese sex concepts, sex therapy can be applied to Chinese Couples experiencing problems in sexual functioning.

Relationship Satisfaction of Veterans and Partners Seeking Couples Therapy: Associations With Posttraumatic Stress, Accommodation, and Depression.

Associations between symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and relationship distress are well-established in research examining Veterans and their romantic partners. Partner accommodation of PTSD symptoms has been identified as an important construct that has ties to both Veteran PTSD symptoms and relationship distress. However, our understanding of accommodation and PTSD has not been tested in couples who are seeking couples therapy. The present study sought to investigate the role of Veterans' PTSD symptoms, partners' accommodation, and depression of both, in relationship satisfa…

Misuse of testosterone replacement therapy in men in infertile couples and its influence on infertility treatment.

OBJECTIVE: We investigated the clinical characteristics of men with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT)-induced hypogonadism and its effect on assisted reproductive technology (ART) in infertile couples. METHODS: This study examined the records of 20 consecutive male patients diagnosed with azoospermia or severe oligozoospermia (<5×106/mL) who visited a single infertility center from January 2008 to July 2018. All patients were treated at a primary clinic for erectile dysfunction or androgen deficiency symptoms combined with low serum testosterone. All men received a phosphodiesterase 5 in

Couples therapy with childhood sexual abuse survivors (CSA) and their partners: establishing a context for witnessing.

This article proposes a clinical practice for therapy with couples in which one partner suffered sexual abuse in childhood. Such couples often encounter unique difficulties with physical contact, intimacy, sexuality, communication, and trust, and their relationship dynamic may be marked by reenactments of past traumatic relational patterns. This clinical practice is founded on the assumption that establishing the witnessing lacking during the traumatic event in childhood can break the traumatic reenactments in adulthood, and spur recovery. The suggested practice may facilitate twofold witnessi

Effectiveness of Couple Therapy in Everyday Practice in Germany and Switzerland-An Update.

Building on and continuing an earlier study, the effectiveness of couple therapy in practice settings in German-language countries was investigated in four independent studies using the same design: naturalistic prospective outcome study with three measurement points. The change in relationship quality was measured over the course of the therapy. In Germany and Switzerland, there is an extensive network of counseling centers run by non-profit organizations providing support to couples, in addition to couple therapists in private practice. Provision of couple therapy to the public is, therefore

Couple sex therapy for dysfunctions associated with congenital penile curvature.

Three couples presented to our clinic with congenital ventral curvature of the penis resulting in unconsummated marriage in 2 cases and dyspareunia in 1. Intensive sex therapy was initiated, including use of vaginal dilators for vaginismus and dyspareunia, sex education, sensate focus exercises, and sexual techniques and methods to increase communication. Two highly motivated couples succeeded in having painless, normal, pleasurable sexual relations after short-term sex therapy. The problems of couple 3 were compounded by the wife's admitted lesbianism. However, this patient insisted on correc

Artificial Intelligence in Couple and Family Therapy: Introduction of the AI Competencies.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly altered the practice of couple/marital and family therapy (CMFT). While much has been written in other disciplines about competencies to be developed in integrating AI into one's work, to date no competencies have been presented for use in CMFT. In this article, we present the first competencies for AI in CMFT. These new competencies cross six domains and were informed by three other competency frameworks: the condensed core competencies for CMFT, interdisciplinary competencies for telebehavioral health, and AI competencies for medicine. Emphasis is pla

A comparison of telehealth and in-person delivery of alcohol behavioral couple therapy.

INTRODUCTION: There is a persistent scarcity of research examining telehealth delivery of evidence-based alcohol use disorder (AUD) interventions. This secondary analysis explored whether Alcohol Behavioral Couple Therapy (ABCT) treatment outcomes differed when delivered via telehealth versus in-person. METHOD: Participants were N = 96 adult romantic couples enrolled in a clinical trial in which all participants received ABCT. Couples who participated entirely in person (n = 15) were compared to those who completed at least one telehealth session (n = 81). We compared 1) feasibility and accep

Dissociative Collusion: Reconnecting Clients with Histories of Trauma in Couple Therapy.

This paper introduces the concept of "dissociative collusion" as a helpful theoretical and clinical tool for understanding and working with clients with histories of trauma in couple therapy. The paper describes ways to diagnose and treat dissociative collusion based on the integration of an object relations approach, a relational approach, and a narrative approach. Dissociative collusion, a unique version of the well-documented "couple collusion," describes relational unconscious dynamics where split-off aspects of one or both partners are mutually dissociated in a complementary fashion that

Couple and family therapies for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) refers to an anxiety or trauma- and stressor-related disorder that is linked to personal or vicarious exposure to traumatic events. PTSD is associated with a range of adverse individual outcomes (e.g. poor health, suicidality) and significant interpersonal problems which include difficulties in intimate and family relationships. A range of couple- and family-based treatments have been suggested as appropriate interventions for families impacted by PTSD. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this review were to: (1) assess the effects of couple and fam

Adapted Couple Therapy (ACT) for pathological gamblers: a promising avenue.

The study of the effectiveness of treatment for pathological gambling constitutes a field that is still largely unexplored. To date, the models assessed primarily target the individual and include little or no involvement of the family circle. Yet, the deleterious effects of gambling on loved ones and especially spouses are well recognized. Further, the addition of a couple modality to individual treatment has been shown to be effective on many levels in the treatment of substances use disorders. This article therefore proposes a critical review of (1) the literature providing a better underst
