A patient with high-flow priapism was treated by transcatheter embolization of a posttraumatic left cavernosal arteriovenous fistula using N-butyl-cyanoacrylate (NBCA), resulting in complete detumescence. Erectile function has been preserved during a 3-month follow-up. Only two patients with NBCA embolization for high-flow priapism have been reported previously.

Transarterial embolization (TAE) of dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) has evolved significantly following insurance approval of liquid embolic agents such as OnyxTM and Histoacryl® (n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate[NBCA]). Onyx allows prolonged injection and controlled penetration into the venous side, whereas NBCA offers rapid polymerization and thrombogenicity. The success of TAE depends on the selection of appropriate delivery devices. The ultra-fine microcatheter, DeFrictor® nano, provides superior distal access to small feeders near the shunt point, thereby facilitating effective embolization.

Bleeding from gastric varices is generally more severe than bleeding from esophageal varices, although it occurs less frequently. Recently, new endoscopic treatment options and interventional radiological procedures have broadened the therapeutic armamentarium for gastric varices. This review provides an overview of the classification and pathophysiology of gastric varices, an introduction to current endoscopic and interventional radiological management options for gastric varices, and details of a practical approach to endoscopic variceal obturation using N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate.

Histoacryl is virtually an ideal tissue glue. It has found application in corneal surgery, oculoplastic surgery, as well as many other surgical fields. A clinical series of 18 patients requiring eyelid skin grafts is presented. Each of the patients had skin grafts placed with a combination of sutures and Histoacryl. No complications were encountered. The postoperative course and results were identical to the authors' experience with skin grafts closed with suture alone. The advantages of Histoacryl skin closure are discussed. Other uses of Histoacryl in oculoplastic surgery are also reviewed.
