BACKGROUND: Population-based data on subsequent neoplasms after women are diagnosed with endometrial and ovarian carcinomas are limited, particularly regarding specific histologic tumor types.
METHODS: The nationwide Swedish Family-Cancer Database of 10.2 million individuals, which includes 19,128 invasive endometrial carcinomas and 19,440 ovarian carcinomas, was used to calculate standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) for second primary carcinomas. SIRs were calculated for specific follow-up periods. Data on histopathologic types also were used.

PURPOSE: To elucidate whether apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values calculated from echo-planar diffusion-weighted MR imaging (EPDWI) are useful in the differential diagnosis of ovarian cystic masses.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: EPDWI was performed in 131 patients with ovarian cystic masses (54 mature cystic teratomas, 35 endometrial cysts, four other benign cysts, 14 benign neoplasms, and 24 malignant neoplasms). In 103 women with postmenopausal bleeding and 283 postmenopausal women without bleeding maximum endometrial thickness was measured by vaginosonography. All patients with postmenopausal bleeding and all women without atypical bleeding but with an endometrium thicker than 4 mm or with some other indication for further investigation underwent curettage. The curettings were examined histologically. All histologically classified endometrial carcinomas were associated with an endometrial thickness of at least 4 mm.
