BACKGROUND: The authors conducted a review to evaluate the magnitude of esthetic impairment that the general public is able to discern with regard to periodontal factors.
METHODS: The authors conducted a systematic computerized search of electronic databases (MEDLINE, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and Web of Science) until May 2010. They scrutinized the abstracts of the retrieved articles and identified, selected and assigned methodological scores to those that investigated periodontal factors affecting anterior dental esthetics from a layperson's perspective.

PURPOSE: This study's purpose was to report on parents' esthetic perceptions of their children's mixed dentition and parental satisfaction changes over time.
METHODS: A total of 376 parents completed esthetic questionnaires concerning satisfaction with their children's teeth at 9- and 11-years-old. Changes in esthetic perceptions were compared based on fluorosis, nonfluoride opacity status (evaluated at 9-years-old), and other factors.

BACKGROUND: Rhinophyma is an uncommon progressively disfiguring process of the nose which occurs most often in middle-aged white men. The supposed association with increased alcohol abuse often leads to psychological problems for the person concerned.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We describe ten cases of patients with slowly progressive tumorous deformation of the nose. They were treated with a stepwise surgical approach consisting of tangential excision for debulking, sculpting with scissors, and finally contouring by dermabrasion.
