Clinical Supervision in Nursing and Evidence-Based Practices in Radial Haemostasis: A Pilot Study.

AIM: To explore radial artery haemostasis practices in relation to recommended protocols, alongside the strategies and characteristics of clinical supervision among nurses providing this care. BACKGROUND: The radial artery is the preferred access route for coronary angiography, but successful outcomes depend on appropriate postprocedure haemostasis management, primarily a nursing responsibility. Clinical supervision supports professional development and care quality, yet little is known about its relationship to haemostasis protocols in interventional cardiology settings. METHODS: A descript

Undergraduate nursing students' experiences with evidence-based practice during clinical internship: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)—particularly in its nursing application, often termed Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN)—is essential for high-quality care. Yet its integration into clinical practice remains challenging for undergraduate nursing students. Gaps between theory and practice, limited statistical and literature appraisal skills, and unsupportive clinical environments hinder EBP adoption. In China, EBP implementation in clinical training is inconsistent, and students’ experiences are poorly understood. This study explores the EBP experiences of undergraduate nursing interns to i

[Evidence-Based Nursing Care of Older Adult Patient With Postoperative Delirium and Hip Fracture].

Hip fracture commonly occurs in adult patients over 65 years old at a prevalence rate that is estimated to be 756 per 100 thousand cases. Thus, hip fracture surgery is one of the most common emergency operations in older adult populations. In addition, the incidence rate in older adults of post-operative delirium, which leads to symptoms of disturbance related to cognition, attention, perception, logic, memory, psychological activities, mood, and sleep, has been reported as 5%-61%. The many possible complications of post-operative delirium, including death, increase medical costs and family bu

The Nurse-Family Partnership: evidence-based public health in response to child maltreatment.

Too many Canadian children are exposed to child maltreatment-neglect, emotional maltreatment, exposure to intimate partner violence, and physical and sexual abuse. Retrospective data indicates that 32% of Canadian adults have experienced childhood abuse. There is evidence that child maltreatment is associated with a wide array of negative health consequences across the life span. These consequences expand across physical, mental, developmental and social domains to include suicide, substance abuse, anxiety, depression and physical health problems. Experts have asked for coordinated national le

Teaching evidence-based practice in undergraduate nursing education: why research must move beyond the classroom.

BACKGROUND: Evidence-based practice (EBP) is positioned as a core expectation of undergraduate nursing education, yet the research used to justify curricular approaches remains uneven in quality and relevance. Current literature frequently reports improved student knowledge, skills and attitudes following EBP teaching, but there is limited evidence that these gains are sustained in practice. AIM: To offer a critical reflection on the current direction of research on teaching EBP in undergraduate nursing education and to identify priorities for a more clinically meaningful research agenda. BACKGROUND: While evidence-based interventions are increasingly used in cognitive care, their effectiveness for patients with brain injury remains not well established. Therefore, we aimed to compare the effects of an evidence-based nursing intervention programme vs. conventional nursing care in patients with cognitive dysfunction following brain injury. METHODS: We enrolled brain injury patients from two neurosurgical wards (A and B) of a Shanghai rehabilitation hospital (July 2023-January 2024) in a non-randomised controlled trial. Ward A implemented the evidence-based cognitive interventio

Nutrition and dementia care: developing an evidence-based model for nutritional care in nursing homes.

BACKGROUND: There is a growing volume of research to offer improvements in nutritional care for people with dementia living in nursing homes. Whilst a number of interventions have been identified to support food and drink intake, there has been no systematic research to understand the factors for improving nutritional care from the perspectives of all those delivering care in nursing homes. The aim of this study was to develop a research informed model for understanding the complex nutritional problems associated with eating and drinking for people with dementia. METHODS: We conducted nine fo

Evaluation of musculoskeletal pain management practices in rural nursing homes compared with evidence-based criteria.

Chronic pain, mainly associated with musculoskeletal diagnoses, is inadequately and often inappropriately treated in nursing home residents. The purpose of this descriptive study is to identify the musculoskeletal diagnoses associated with pain and to compare pain management of a sample of nursing home residents with the 1998 evidence-based guideline proposed by the American Geriatrics Society (AGS). The sample consists of 215 residents from 13 rural Iowa nursing home homes. The residents answered a series of face-to-face questions that addressed the presence/absence of pain and completed the
