Isolated follicular cysts of the ovary without elevated gonadotropin levels can occur as the primary source of early pubertal changes in young girls. Two girls, aged 3 and 6 years, were treated for precocious pseudopuberty associated with a follicular ovarian cyst. Both patients had breast enlargement, areolar pigmentation, and elevated serum estradiol levels. In one girl, a normal displaced uterus was palpated; in the other, an ovarian cyst was identified by ultrasonography. Surgical treatment consisted of limited resection of the follicular cysts. Eruptive vellus hair cysts were first described in 1977. They usually appear as yellow to reddish-brown papules on the chest. Usual onset is between ages 17 and 24 years, but they may be congenital. Some believe that they may be inherited as an autosomal dominant disorder. Histologically the cyst has a stratified squamous epithelium and it contains laminated keratin and vellus hairs. They are felt to be caused by an abnormality at the infundibular level of the vellus hair. We present this because of this patient's unusual distribution of eruptive vellus hair cysts.

A 60-year-old man was referred to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with discomfort caused by pressure on the left-hand side of the maxilla. Examination revealed a very elevated third molar in contact with the orbital floor and infundibulum, and, possibly, a follicular cyst. On account of the threat to the orbital floor, it was first decided to decompress the cyst and place an in situ drain. After 4 months, the tooth and cyst could be removed and the diagnosis of a follicular cyst was confirmed.Auteursinformatie.

Functional follicular ovarian cysts are frequently reported in girls with peripheral precocious puberty (PP). These cysts are usually self-limiting and resolve spontaneously. Several drugs like antiestrogens (tamoxifen) and new aromatase inhibitors are seldom used for treatment. Here we report a girl with peripheral PP who presented with unilateral enlargement of the ovary and a recurrent autonomous ovarian cyst. No skin pigmentation or bone anomaly was noted. We report a case of rare bilateral massive ovarian luteinized follicular cysts in a twin pregnancy. A 28-year-old, gravida 1, para 0, abortus 0 woman was incidentally found to have bilateral massive ovarian cysts (left side, 12 × 10 × 8 cm; right side, 15 × 10 × 6 cm) during the cesarean delivery of a twin pregnancy at 36 weeks of gestation. After 1,950-g and 2,350-g female babies were delivered in good condition, the patient received bilateral oophorectomy. Subsequent histopathology led to the diagnosis of giant bilateral ovarian luteinized follicular cysts.
