[Genetic markers and several indices of immune reactivity].

The highest changes of blood serum proteinogramm were observed within the first week after anti-typhus-paratyphus-tetanus vaccination in persons with haptoglobin of 2-2 type, especially in combination with NN and MN blood groups of MN system. The most intense increase of antibody titer to typhoid bacillus was observed in a month after the vaccination in persons with 2-2 type of haptoglobin. The combination of MN (Hp 2-2) blood group is more frequent in bronchial asthma patients than in the normal population.

Genetic Markers of Methotrexate Treatment Failure in Psoriasis.

Background: Pharmacogenetic markers associated with the need to switch patients from methotrexate (MTX) to biologic agents in moderate-to-severe psoriasis remain insufficiently studied. The pharmacokinetics of MTX depend on the individual characteristics of the patient, as well as on the function of specific transporters and enzymes involved in its absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination; therefore, polymorphisms in genes encoding these proteins may be considered pharmacogenetic predictors of MTX intolerance or insufficient efficacy. This study aimed to investigate genetic varian…

Genetic markers associated with ferroptosis in Alzheimer's disease.

OBJECTIVE: Ferroptosis is implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and vascular dementia, implying that it may have a regulatory effect on the progression of these diseases. However, the specific role of ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) in Alzheimer's disease (AD) is not yet fully understood. The aim of the study was to detect ferroptosis related genes with regulatory functions in the disease and explore potential mechanisms in AD. METHODS: Hub FRGs were obtained through multiple algorithms based on the GSE5281 dataset. Th

Genetic markers identify duplicates in Nordic potato collections.

INTRODUCTION: The first small scale cultivation of potatoes in the Nordic countries began roughly 300 years ago, and later became an important staple food in the region. Organized conservation efforts began in the 1980s, and today, potato landraces, improved varieties, and breeding lines are conserved in genebanks at the Nordic Genetic Resource Center (NordGen), Sweden, and the Norwegian Genetic Resource Centre (NGS), Norway, as well as at potato breeding companies across Nordic countries. All these collections house a diverse array of genotypes with local names and local growing histories fro

Genetic markers of osteoarticular disorders: facts and hopes.

Osteoarthritis and osteoporosis are the two most common age-related chronic disorders of articular joints and skeleton, representing a major public health problem in most developed countries. Apart from being influenced by environmental factors, both disorders have a strong genetic component, and there is now considerable evidence from large population studies that these two disorders are inversely related. Thus, an accurate analysis of the genetic component of one of these two multifactorial diseases may provide data of interest for the other. However, the existence of confounding factors mus

[Meningiomas: prognostic relevance of histopathologic and genetic markers].

The majority of meningiomas are histologically benign tumours. Location and invasion of tumour tissue in adjacent structures may hamper radical resections and give rise to recurrences. The rise in human life expectancy has prolonged the postoperative period and thus the risk of tumour recurrence has increased markedly. Infiltration in brain tissue and mitotic activity are important histologic features which negatively influence the disease-free duration of the postoperative period. Molecular studies of relevant genetic defects involved in meningioma are currently underway, but as yet these are

Genetic characterization of the Entamoeba moshkovskii population based on different potential genetic markers.

Entamoeba moshkovskii, according to recent studies, appears to exert a more significant impact on diarrhoeal infections than previously believed. The efficient identification and genetic characterization of E. moshkovskii isolates from endemic areas worldwide are crucial for understanding the impact of parasite genomes on amoebic infections. In this study, we employed a multilocus sequence typing system to characterize E. moshkovskii isolates, with the aim of assessing the role of genetic variation in the pathogenic potential of E. moshkovskii. We incorporated 3 potential genetic markers: KERP…

Molecular markers used in forensic genetics.

Forensic genetics is a field that has become subject to increasing interest in recent years. Both the technology and the markers used for forensic purposes have changed since the 1980s. The minisatellite sequences used in the famous Pitchfork case introduced genetics to the forensic sciences. Minisatellite sequences have now been replaced by more sensitive microsatellite markers, which have become the basis for the creation of genetic profile databases. Modern molecular methods also exploit single nucleotide polymorphisms, which are often the only way to identify degraded DNA samples. The same

Genetics and biological markers in urachal cancer.

Urachal cancer (UraC) is a rare tumor entity that usually develops at the basis of the remnant embryologic urachus. Consisting of mostly adenocarcinomas, most patients present with secondary symptoms due to an advanced stage with urinary bladder infiltration. One third of patients are already metastasized at presentation rendering them unsuitable for curative surgical treatment. In order to improve staging, treatment and follow-up, adequate knowledge about the genetic origin and potential markers is necessary. This paper reviews the English literature until December 2015. Pathologists argue fo

A genetic marker for rheumatic heart disease.

The frequency of antigen types (A, B, C, and DR) in an unselected group of 25 patients with chronic rheumatic heart disease and an unselected group of 15 patients with acute rheumatic fever was compared with that in a group of 100 healthy volunteers. All patients and controls were Arabs of Saudi origin. Only the frequency of HLA-DR4 was significantly different in the controls and the patient groups--controls 12%, chronic rheumatic heart disease 72%, acute rheumatic fever 53%, both patient groups together 65% (relative risk 13.6 with 95% confidence interval 10.5-16.7). [Genetic marker of statin-induced rhabdomyolysis].

This review summarizes genetic factors predisposed to statin-induced rhabdomyolysis. The first genetic risk factor of statin myopathy uncovered by genome-wide analysis of single nucleotide polymorphisms was the common variant of SLCO1B1 gene. Analysis of 30000 genetic markers in 85 patients with myopathy induced by high-dose simvastatin showed a strong association with 521T>C polymorphism of SLCO1B1. Another study also showed that this variant of SLCO1B1 has a significant association with myopathy in patients taking pravastatin or atorvastatin although the number of patients analyzed was limit…

Genetic Variants as Sudden-Death Risk Markers in Inherited Arrhythmogenic Syndromes: Personalized Genetic Interpretation.

Inherited arrhythmogenic syndromes are the primary cause of unexpected lethal cardiac episodes in young people. It is possible that the first sign of the condition may be sudden death. Inherited arrhythmogenic syndromes are caused by genetic defects that may be analyzed using different technical approaches. A genetic alteration may be used as a marker of risk for families who carry the genetic alterations. Therefore, the early identification of the responsible genetic defect may help the adoption of preventive therapeutic measures focused on reducing the risk of lethal arrhythmias. Here, we de

Identification of Genetic Diagnostic Markers for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

BACKGROUND: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex and heterogeneous systemic autoimmune disease associated with poor treatment outcomes. While previous studies have indicated a genetic predisposition to SLE, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify diagnostic targets with potential genetic associations to SLE by leveraging bioinformatics and the Mendelian randomization (MR) approach. METHODS: Six datasets (GSE30153, GSE39088, GSE50635, GSE50772, GSE61635, and GSE110169) were obtained from the GEO database for differential expressio

Genetic markers of artemisinin resistance in Plasmodium spp. parasites.

The vast majority of malaria patients worldwide are currently treated with combination therapy comprising one of the artemisinin family of drugs, characterised by rapid action and short plasma half-life, co-formulated with a longer-lasting drug from the amino aryl-alcohol or quinoline families. There is now a widely perceived threat to treatment efficacy, as reduced susceptibility to rapid artemisinin clearance in vivo has become prevalent among populations of Plasmodium falciparum in the Greater Mekong subregion since 2008. In vitro and in vivo drug selection studies, heterologous cell expres
