Resulting from generations of historical oppression and systemic racism, American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities experience serious health disparities associated with substance use disorders (SUDs). Mullerian inhibiting substance (MIS), a glycoprotein responsible for the regression of Mullerian duct in the male mammalian embryo, was recently localized not only in the fetal and newborn testis, but also in the older ovary throughout reproductive life. Breast milk is a key source of infant per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure, yet its influence on longitudinal child growth and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.
