The authors give an account of an uncommon cause of haemoperitoneum--spontaneous rupture of an angiosarcoma-afflicted liver. During the urgent operation haemostatic stitches, partial devascularisation of the liver and tamponade were used. The patient died during the postoperative period due to prolonged haemorrhagic shock and developing multiorgan failure. The authors discuss possible methods of haemostasis of hepatic origin, and emphasize perihepatic tamponade (packing). Failure of the surgery of this case-history is discussed.

A case is presented of haemoperitoneum due to gall bladder perforation during calculosis with cholecystitis. There was no history of earlier abdominal trauma nor haemobilia. Cholecystectomy was performed. The postoperative course was uncomplicated. Cure was achieved.

A case of recurring haemoperitoneum caused by liver cancer is presented. This neoplasia, rare itself in Italy, may have a variety of clinical pictures. Recurring haemoperitoneum is quite exceptional and mistaken diagnosis and aetiopathogenetic interpretation are the likely results. The symptomatology is illustrated and the problem of diagnosis is discussed.

A 54-year-old, nondiabetic male who had an ABOi spousal kidney transplant in May 2023 underwent graft nephrectomy elsewhere due to dysfunction. Acute abdominal pain in women of reproductive age is common and frequent cause for visit to emergency department which warrants emergent evaluation. We present the case of a 23-year-old nulliparous women presenting with post-coital haemoperitoneum secondary to a ruptured corpus luteum cyst. This is a rare case demonstrating the need to elicit sexual history in patients presenting with an acute abdomen in emergency department.

A rare case of a 31-year-old woman is reported who had massive intraperitoneal bleeding caused by ovarian hemorrhage as the first manifestation of acute leukemia. Preoperative laboratory findings revealed severe anemia (Hb 6.6 g/dl) and thrombocytopenia (1.5 x 10(4)/mm(3)) but normal leukocyte count (3.9 x 10(3)/mm(3)). After surgery, blast cells were found in her peripheral blood and she was diagnosed with M0 type acute myeloid leukemia. In addition, histopathology revealed infiltration of leukemic cells in the resected ovary.
