A 9-year-old spayed female domestic shorthair cat presented with a skin lesion of the left tarsus. The lesion was biopsied and, based on the microscopic appearance and immunohistochemical characteristics, histiocytic sarcoma was diagnosed. Amputation was performed with improved demeanor seen postoperatively. However, between 44 and 60 days following the surgery, relapse of skin lesions appeared in multiple locations, including at the previous amputation site, and euthanasia was elected. This is the first report of a histiocytic sarcoma treated with amputation in a cat.

A histiocytic sarcoma in an aging female gerbil is described. The neoplasm primarily involved the spleen and liver, and these organs were considered the primary sites of neoplastic origin. No neoplastic infiltration was noted in the uterus or ovaries as is commonly seen in the female mouse. This is the first report of histiocytic sarcoma in gerbils.

Cutaneous histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare malignant tumor. An 82-year-old woman presented with a 4 × 2-cm irregular-shaped red nodule on the left posterior scalp. A biopsy specimen revealed sheets of pleomorphic atypical cells in the dermis and subcutis. A diagnosis of HS was made based on the results of a panel of immunohistochemical stains that revealed positivity of leukocyte common antigen, CD4, CD163, and HLA-DR. Histiocytic sarcoma is derived from histiocytes and is among the rarest of the tumors affecting the lymphoid tissue. We report a case of a histiocytic sarcoma arising from the lymph node in a 35-year-old male who came for a fine needle aspiration cytology and a subsequent biopsy was conducted and the tissue subjected to hematoxylin and eosin and immunohistochemistry staining.

We describe the case of a 39-year-old man with idiopathic myelofibrosis, who developed histiocytic sarcoma (true histiocytic lymphoma) 6 months after diagnosis. The patient developed generalized lymphadenopathy. A lymph node biopsy showed pronounced distension of the sinuses in the medulla and periphery, caused by the accumulation of large tumor cells. Histiocytic sarcoma is an uncommon neoplasm of mature histiocytes with very poor outcome. We report an autopsy case of a true histiocytic sarcoma with characteristic symptoms of so-called "malignant histiocytosis of the intestine". The liver and spleen were enlarged, with remarkable tumor cell infiltration in the hepatic sinusoids and splenic sinuses. Two cases of clinical diagnosis of tumour of the trachea and tumour of the stomach are described in a 42- and 52-year-old males. Immunohistochemical and ultrastructural methods were used to prove the histiocytic nature of the tumour cells which were morphologically similar to poorly differentiated carcinoma and large cell lymphosarcoma.

Large-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (T- and B-immunoblastic, centroblastic and true histiocytic lymphomas) have a heterogeneous clinical course. In the present study the clinical and morphological data of 20 cases of histiocytic sarcoma (true histiocytic lymphoma) are presented. We report a 31-year-old male patient repeatedly hospitalized for mimicking infectious symptoms. Following standardized anti-infective and anti-inflammatory treatment, clinical evolution was discordant, characterized by treatment non-response and symptom exacerbation. Ultimately, the multidisciplinary team and repeated histopathological examinations diagnosed histiocytic sarcoma (HS). Unfortunately, the treatment opportunity was lost due to HS's high aggressiveness and rapid progression.
