Hydranencephaly is a condition in which cerebral hemispheres are absent and reduced to fluid-filled sacs in a normal skull. Numerous causes have been proposed. We report a male infant with hydranencephaly and congenital vascular malformations (port wine stains, generalized nevus flammeus, anomalous retinal vessels, and absent internal carotid flow). Experimental hydranencephaly in the ovine fetus.

Hydranencephaly is defined as the replacement of a previously normal brain, in whole or in part, by membranous fluid-filled sacs. The etiology is not well understood, and the time course of development is unknown. Fifteen ovine fetuses were chronically cannulated and had both carotid arteries ligated at 100 days of gestation (term is 145-150 days). They were killed at 1 (n = 4), 2 (n = 6) and 4 (n = 5) weeks post-surgery, and the findings compared with those of 25 age-matched controls. Porencephaly and hydranencephaly in six dogs.

A retrospective study was performed to identify dogs with cerebrospinal fluid-filled cavitatory lesions on MRI. Six dogs were included and the lesions were classified. In the three dogs in the present study with hydranencephaly, unilateral but complete loss of the temporal and parietal lobes was noted and had almost complete loss of the occipital and frontal lobes of a cerebral hemisphere. Hydranencephaly in newborn calves in Zambia.

Hydranencephaly without arthrogryposis was observed in three newborn Holstein-Friesian calves, born during one week in a 400-cow dairy herd in Zambia. The affected calves were blind and exhibited nystagmus and depressed behavior. Akabane virus infection was suspected based on the pathological findings and etiological data, however, we could not determine the exact causative agent.

Hydranencephaly in association with Roberts syndrome.

A clinicopathological study in a case of Roberts syndrome (tetraphocomelia, cleft lip and palate, and phallic hypertrophy) is reported. This patient had hydranencephaly and impeperforate anus, two additional congenital abnormalities so far not reported in this syndrome.

The study of six patients with hydranencephaly is reported. Clinical and necroscopic findings have been performed in correlation to routine laboratory examination. Congenital bovine epizootic arthrogryposis and hydranencephaly.

Epizootics of congenital neurological defects in calves have been recorded at various intervals in south eastern New South Wales for over 40 years. In 1974 a particularly severe outbreak occurred. Field observations of the clinical entities, their time of appearance, distribution and incidence were recorded in an attempt to determine an epidemiological pattern. Percutaneous choroid plexus coagulation in hydranencephaly.
