Implementing an Interdisciplinary Order Set for Amputation: A Cross-Sectional Quality Improvement Study.

PURPOSE: This quality improvement study evaluated a novel, electronic medical record (EMR)-based order set designed to standardize interdisciplinary care coordination for patients undergoing lower extremity amputation at a large academic medical center. When activated, the order set automatically placed consultations for an interdisciplinary team consisting of physical therapy, occupational therapy, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), chaplaincy, and orthotics/prosthetics. METHODS: Patients (n=637) who underwent lower extremity amputation were divided into 2 cohorts: those with and w

Interdisciplinary approach to patients with psoriatic arthritis: a prospective, single-center cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease that affects up to 30% of patients with psoriasis. Diagnosis and treatment could be improved by implementing an interdisciplinary dermatological-rheumatological consultation (IDRC). OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to assess the effect of a face-to-face IDRC involving both a dermatologist and a rheumatologist evaluating patients in a single visit, on disease activity and burden in patients with PsA. DESIGN: Prospective, single-center, cohort study. METHODS: 202 patients with psoriasis were enrolled, among whom 115

HPV Vaccine Communication Competency Scale for Medical Trainees: Interdisciplinary Development Study.

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States. High-risk HPV strains are associated with cancer of the cervix, oropharynx, anus, rectum, penis, vagina, and vulva. To combat increasing HPV-related cancers, the 9-valent HPV vaccine Gardasil was developed. Recommendation of the HPV vaccine by a health care provider has been cited as the number one factor affecting vaccine uptake among adolescents and young adults. Physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists have been enlisted to bridge the gap. OBJECTIVE: Th

PATIENTS AND METHODS: During a period of one year, 222 patients (mean age 76.6 years; 59% women) with complete acute ischemic stroke were admitted and underwent complete clinical and diagnostic procedures: CCT/MRI; Doppler- and color-coded duplex and transcranial sonography;

An interdisciplinary, co-designed guide for return to running postpartum-a mixed-methods study.

INTRODUCTION: Despite its ease of access and multifaceted health benefits, compared to pre-pregnancy, engagement in running decreases following childbirth (postpartum). While a biopsychosocial approach is recommended to help women return to running postpartum, greater understanding of running-specific barriers and facilitators is needed to support this. To date, there is a lack of evidence-based, co-designed guidance to help facilitate re-engagement with running postpartum. The aims of this study were therefore to: 1) investigate the barriers to and facilitators of postpartum return to running

Sustaining transformations in psychoanalysis: an interdisciplinary case study on trauma, dreams, and memory reconsolidation.

Chronic depression associated with early trauma remains one of the most treatment-resistant conditions in mental healthcare. Clinical and empirical findings have increasingly suggested that patients with histories of early trauma may benefit differentially from intensive psychoanalytic treatments compared to symptom-focused or short-term psychotherapies. Our conceptual article aims to elucidate the mechanisms underlying sustained therapeutic change in psychoanalysis with chronically depressed, early traumatized patients by integrating clinical psychoanalytic theory, contemporary dream research

A Pilot Observational Exploratory Study of Well-Being in Hospice Interdisciplinary Team Members.

INTRODUCTION: Well-being and turnover intent represent key aspects to the promotion of a healthy workforce. Alarming levels of burnout and low levels of well-being have been documented in health professionals across care settings. Not only do high levels of burnout, low well-being and high turnover affect health professionals, but they are associated with poor patient care. However, limited research has investigated this topic specifically in hospice interdisciplinary team (IDT) members, nurses, chaplains, social workers. Thus, the purpose of this study was to explore hospice IDT members' well

Clinical-etiologic correlation in children with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS): an interdisciplinary study.

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a multisystemic disorder caused by the loss of expression of paternally transcribed genes within chromosome 15q11-q13. Most cases are due to paternal deletion of this region; the remaining cases result from maternal uniparental disomy (UPD) and imprinting defects. To better understand the phenotypic variability of PWS, a genotype-phenotype correlation study was performed in 91 children with PWS. Patients were diagnosed by Southern Blot Methylation assay and genetic subtypes were established using FISH and microsatellite analyses. Fifty-nine subjects with deletion

Perceptions of Interdisciplinary Cleft Treatment: A Qualitative Pilot Study of Children With Cleft Palate and Their Parents.

BACKGROUND: Treating children with a cleft palate with or without a cleft lip (CP±L) requires an interdisciplinary approach. While this coordinated, long-term treatment approach intends to enhance children's quality of life (QoL), it may still be perceived as burdensome for the children and their environment. AIMS: This study investigated the perspectives of both children with a CP±L and their parents, with a particular focus on the psychological and financial impact of interdisciplinary cleft treatment. METHODS: A total of 10 parents (mean age of 48.0 years) and 7 children with CP±L (mean a

Development of a curriculum for interdisciplinary e-learning on delirium in nursing homes-a modified Delphi study.

BACKGROUND: Health care professionals (HCPs) in nursing homes, such as nurses and general practitioners (GPs), indicate a need for delirium-specific education. However, establishing educational interventions in the nursing home setting is challenging. e-learning is one method of compensating for these difficulties. Therefore, this study aims to develop a curriculum for interdisciplinary e-learning to improve delirium-specific knowledge in HCPs in nursing homes. METHODS: Delirium-specific competencies were formulated on the basis of exploratory setting-independent literature. The competencies

Prevalence of vulval lichen planus in a cohort of women with oral lichen planus: an interdisciplinary study.

BACKGROUND: Lichen planus (LP) is a mucocutaneous inflammatory dermatosis that frequently involves the oral and genital mucosae. Patients with LP affecting these sites are often seen by oral medicine specialists or gynaecologists who work in isolation and depend heavily on histopathologists to help them in confirming the diagnosis. There are few studies in the literature combining the experiences of these specialists who share the care of patients with both oral and genital LP. OBJECTIVES: To estimate the prevalence of vulval LP (VLP) in a cohort of patients with histologically confirmed oral
