Patients with cholinergic urticaria exhibit increased hypersensitivity to cholinergic drugs. In the present study, an attempt was made to determine whether these patients would also cross-react to various neuromuscular blocking agents having structures analogous with acetylcholine. The four patients tested showed positive skin tests for D-tubocurarine at concentrations of 1/10,000. The aim of the current study was to quantify sweating responses to intradermal terbutaline in normal horses. Seven Thoroughbred horses were used. Terbutaline (10-fold dilutions from 1000-0.001 mg/l) and a saline control were injected intradermally (0.1 ml/site) and sweat collected for 30 min into absorbent pads taped over each injection site. Open, closed and intradermal testing with NiCl2 was performed in 15 subjects with patch-test-proven allergy to 5% NiSO4 in pet. Intradermal testing proved to be a reliable method in confirming nickel sensitivity within 24 h. Open testing with non-toxic concentrations of NiCl2 in alcohol resulted in 73% and 93% positive reactions at 24 h and 48 h readings, respectively. Forty-eight cattle were sensitised to Brucella antigens either by vaccination with Brucella abortus strain 19 (S19) or B. abortus 45/20 (S45/20) ad 24 of these and 12 unvaccinated cattle were subsequently challenged with virulent B. abortus strain 544 (S544). Three intratesticulary inoculated bovines revealed to be susceptible to experimental paracoccidioidomycosis. The experimental infection was self limited with no tendency to dissemination during a follow up period of five months.
