BACKGROUND: Lanthanum carbonate (LC) has been proposed as a new phosphate binder. Presented here are the results from one centre that participated in a multicentre trial to assess the effect of treatment with LC and calcium carbonate (CC) on the evolution of renal osteodystrophy in dialysis patients. Bone biopsies were performed at baseline, after 1 year of treatment and after a further 2-year follow-up period to assess the lanthanum concentration in bone and plasma.

The renewable pine needles was used as an adsorbent to remove phosphorus from aqueous solutions. Using batch experiments, pine needles pretreated with alkali-isopropanol (AI) failed to effectively remove phosphorus, while pine needles modified with lanthanum hydroxide (LH) showed relatively high removal efficiency. In this study, lanthanum-doped magnetic biochar (LaMBC) was synthesized from bagasse by co-doping iron salt and lanthanum salt, and it was characterized for its application in the activation of persulfate (PS) in the degradation of Florfenicol (FLO). The permeability of the pineal gland to lanthanum was investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis. Different pineal cell populations were studied.
