INTRODUCTION: Many ocular or systemic conditions can cause weakening of the zonules, leading to subluxation or complete dislocation of lens into the anterior chamber or vitreous cavity.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the outcome of surgery in cases with subluxated and dislocated lens.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective chart review of all cases with subluxated and dislocated lens who underwent surgery in a one-year period from 2019 January to 2019 December was conducted. Demographic profile, systemic comorbidities, initial and final best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), surgical procedure were rec

A 66-year-old Japanese man presented with subluxation of a posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) caused by a rupture of part of Zinn's zonule but no retinal break 2 years after phacoemulsification with IOL implantation. He had a history of atopic dermatitis since infancy. This case presents a rare ocular complication of scratching and rubbing the face and eyelids because of itching related to atopic dermatitis.

Cohen Syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive condition characterized by facial abnormalities with or without microcephaly, non-progressive intellectual delay, hypotonia, ophthalmic abnormalities, and neutropenia. Due to its low incidence and variable presentation, much about the disorder, including ophthalmic manifestations, is not fully understood. Here, we present the first documented case of a 5-year-old Amish child with Cohen Syndrome who presented with bilateral subluxation of microspherophakic lenses - rare findings themselves, let alone coexisting in a patient with a rare genetic syndro

BACKGROUND: Iridodonesis is the clinical sign of lens subluxation. Acute glaucoma caused by a ciliolenticular block may develop. YAG iridotomy or peripheral iridectomy are rarely effective in controlling intraocular pressure. The results of phacoemulsification and posterior lens implantation for subluxated lens and glaucoma are reported.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Seven patients aged 69+/-9.5 years were followed up. All 10 eyes with subluxated lens and glaucoma had phacoemulsification and posterior chamber lens implantation. Two different groups relating to axial length could be analyzed. Intraope…

The authors report a nontraditional effective method of treating patients with contusion semiluxation of the lens. It consists in fixation of the lens at the expense of formation of posterior synechiae because of an inflammatory process induced by laser exposure of pigmented epithelium of the iris and ciliary body. Complex clinical evaluation of the organ of vision in 132 patients, including the remote period (after 3-10 years), showed good stabilization of visual functions and of the geometrical position of the incompletely dislocated lens after its laser fixation.

PURPOSE: To uncover the homozygous recessive gene mutation underlying familial lens subluxation and/or juvenile lens opacities in four sisters from a consanguineous family.
METHODS: Prospective family study (clinical phenotyping; homozygosity-analysis-guided candidate gene testing).
RESULTS: The proband was a 14-year-old girl with long-standing poor vision, bilateral temporal lens subluxation, lens opacities, and axial high myopia. There were no syndromic findings, and fibrillin-1 sequencing was normal. Three sisters, also non-syndromic, had undergone bilateral juvenile lens surgery (two for…

PurposeSeverely subluxated crystalline lenses pose a difficult situation to anterior segment surgeons and can only be managed surgically by removal of the lens as well as the capsular bag. Several techniques have been described in literature for the management of such cases. We describe a modified technique of endocapsular lens aspiration by the limbal route for lens extraction through small incisions on the cornea.Patients and methodsThirty-two eyes of 16 consecutive patients with severely subluxated crystalline lenses were recruited in the study. All eyes underwent a modified technique of le

To report a case of late diagnosis of a classical familial homocystinuria based on an ophthalmologic examination. A 35-year-old male with Marfan-like phenotype complained of a progressive increase of myopia during the previous 2 years. Ophthalmologic exploration showed a bilateral subluxation of the lens with inferior and nasal displacement. Biochemical study detected a profile of increased amino acid levels (homocysteinemia) consistent with suspected homocystinuria. Vascular and skeletal studies ruled out Marfan syndrome. Response to treatment demonstrated B(6)-non-responsive homocystinuria.

PURPOSE: To report a case of pupillary block glaucoma associated with spontaneous crystalline lens subluxation into the anterior chamber in a 34-year-old man.
METHODS: Dry vitrectomy was performed for securing enough retrolental space, and an intracapsular lens extraction was then performed via a corneolimbal incision. Additional endothelial cell damage was avoided with an injection of viscoelastics and gentle extraction of the crystalline lens. After deepening of the anterior chamber, scleral fixation of the intraocular lens was performed with an ab externo technique.
RESULTS: Two months af…

Two patients had a subluxated crystalline lens: one with Marfan's syndrome and the other with traumatic cataract. A pars plana lensectomy with transscleral fixation of a foldable silicone intraocular lens rather than a conventional poly(methyl methacrylate) lens was performed. Excellent, rapid visual rehabilitation was obtained using this small incision technique.
