Several materials were tested as possible individual emergency dosimeters using Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) as means to assess the exposure. Materials investigated included human nails, business cards and plastic buttons. The OSL properties of these materials were studied in comparison with those of teeth. Square-planar Pt(II) complexes of the bis(mesitylimino)acenaphthene (mesBIAN) ligand are emissive from a MMLL'CT excited state in a dichloromethane solution at room temperature. Investigation of the nature of the frontier orbitals in these near-IR emitters by a combination of emission spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy, and density functional theory calculations suggests that emission is enabled by the presence of low-lying ligand pi* orbitals on the mesBIAN.

Bis-amidinate indium(III) monochlorides [(tBuN)2C(Ph)]2InCl (1), [(tBuN)2C(2-naphthyl)]2InCl (2), [(tBuN)2C(2-anthryl)]2InCl (3), [(tBuN)2C(9-anthryl)]2InCl (4), [(tBuN)2C(9-phenanthryl)]2InCl (5), and [(tBuN)2C(1-pyrene)]2InCl (6) were prepared by the reaction of the corresponding Li-amidinate ligand with InCl3. Detailed comparative studies of spectral and fluorescent properties of curcumin in solutions at room temperature (293 K) and in rigid glass … of curcumin phosphorescence and its decay times were estimated for each solvent. By monitoring the luminescence of curcumin-sensitized singlet oxygen generation in the 1270 nm region, its quantum yield (φΔ) was determined in a number of organic solvents. The obtained values φΔ are 1.4-2.0 times higher than the literature data from 30 years ago.
