Rare case of red tears: ocular vicarious menstruation.

Bloody tears or haemolacria is a rare clinical entity. It is caused by various ocular and systemic conditions. Haemolacria due to vicarious menstruation is even rarer. In this article, we presented a case of cyclical episodes of bloody tears coinciding with menstrual cycle in a 25-year-old married female patient. Extensive physical, ophthalmological and radiological evaluation failed to reveal other potential causes of her complaint. A diagnosis of ocular vicarious menstruation was made and she was treated with oral contraceptive pills. No such episode recurred during 3 months follow-up period

[Menstruation, inflammation and comorbidities: implications for woman health].

Menstruation is the genital sign of systemic endocrine events. Heterogeneity of perimenstrual symptoms is associated with levels of inflammation, triggered by the fall of estrogens at genital and systemic level. Aim of the review is to concisely analyze the evidence on: 1) genital and systemic endocrine and inflammatory events associated with periods and perimenstrual symptoms; 2) rationale of intervention to reduce their intensity and impact on women's lives. This review of the literature, selected with a clinical perspective, supports the inflammatory basis of the menstrual event, triggered

Menstrual disorders during adolescence.

During the post-menarcheal years several kinds of menstrual disorders can be observed, such as abnormal uterine bleeding, primary and secondary dysmenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome, primary and secondary amenorrhea and oligomenorrhea. Abnormal uterine bleeding and especially the subtype of dysfunctional uterine bleeding is the most urgent gynecological problem during adolescence, while dysmenorrhea is the most frequent one for which adolescents and their parents refer to a physician. Normal menstrual cycle physiology as well as definitions of all the above menstrual disorders is briefly mention

Three cases of macroprolactinaemia.

A woman with hirsutism but otherwise symptom-free was found to have a raised serum prolactin and a pituitary microadenoma. The hyperprolactinaemia persisted despite bromocriptine therapy and subsequent pituitary surgery, which yielded a non-functioning adenoma. After a further 15 years with persistent hyperprolactinaemia but no symptoms, macroprolactinaemia was diagnosed. Such cases might account for part of the failure rate of pituitary microsurgery for prolactinoma. Testing for macroprolactinaemia is advisable in a woman with hyperprolactinaemia, especially if her ovulatory cycle is normal.

Menses Requires Energy: A Review of How Disordered Eating, Excessive Exercise, and High Stress Lead to Menstrual Irregularities.

PURPOSE: Functional hypothalamic amenorrhea secondary to low weight, excessive exercise, and/or high levels of stress is common among young women. Adolescence is a time in development that a positive energy balance is crucial for puberty, menarche, and regular menstruation. Disordered eating and eating disorders are the third most common chronic illness and tend to start during puberty. High-level athletes, specifically young girls participating in ballet, running, gymnastics, and figure skating, are at risk of developing hypothalamic amenorrhea from excessive exercise and inability to meet th

Systematic Review on the Effect of Yoga Nidra on Menstrual Disorders Among Adult Women.

Menstrual disorders including amenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome, and dysmenorrhea significantly disrupt the normal menstrual cycle and negatively impact quality of life. Yoga nidra, a guided meditation technique, has been explored for its potential therapeutic benefits in menstrual health, although comprehensive evidence remains limited. The present systematic review aimed to assess the effect of yoga nidra on menstrual disorders by analyzing existing research and synthesizing findings. The review followed PRISMA guidelines and involved searches in PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Science Dir

Association of celiac disease with menstrual and hormonal disturbances: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Disturbances in the female reproductive system are known extraintestinal manifestations of celiac disease (CD). However, the reliability of the existing literature is limited by small study populations and heterogeneous study designs. This study is the first systematic review and meta-analysis to synthesize all available evidence and provide a comprehensive evaluation of the association between CD and female menstrual and hormonal parameters. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Central databases using keywords related to CD, menstr
