Several types of intra-uterine lesions can be destroyed endoscopically by coagulation with laser Nd-YAG. The use of a small diameter malleable fibroscope makes it possible to direct the energy accurately so that it is easy to use throughout the whole procedure. Operative hysteroscopy using laser has been performed in 12 cases of persistent metrorrhagia. Using this technique it has been possible to avoid open surgery such as hysterectomy or myomectomy. The procedure is quick and painless. It can be used on outpatients.

Inflammatory bowel disease commonly affects women with child-bearing potential, and clinical activity extent is most relevant at the time of conception. Below, we report on the case of a 19-year-old woman who was admitted for first-trimester metrorrhagia and fever, with various extraintestinal manifestations, mainly including erythema nodosum and episcleritis during the course of disease. The differential diagnosis of these manifestations led to the diagnosis of Crohn's disease, which involved the whole colon.

Morphologic studies on human hysterectomy specimens indicate the IUD elicits a vascular reaction which is most pronounced in the endometrium adjacent to the device. This reaction includes increased vascularity, congestion and increased permeability, and degeneration with defect formation. In addition, there is poor hemostatic responsiveness to vascular permeability and damage. The reaction leads to interstitial hemorrhage which undoubtedly causes metrorrhagia. A likely cause for initial vascular damage is mechanical stress transmitted by the IUD through the endometrium to its vascular network.…

In patients with AIDS, infection with Histoplasma capsulatum frequently results in disseminated disease. We discuss a 42-year old HIV-infected woman presenting with fever, weight loss, pulmonary infiltrates, diarrhea, and metrorrhagia. Biopsy of bone marrow and skin demonstrated H capsulatum. Necrotic lesions of the uterine cervix, initially thought to represent cervical carcinoma, proved to be because of disseminated histoplasmosis. Involvement of the female genital tract by histoplasmosis is exceedingly rare, with cervical disease not having been described previously.

We report a child with Down's syndrome in whom metrorrhagia and precocious puberty revealed primary autoimmune hypothyroidism. The patient had a decreased growth velocity, exaggerated weight gain, bone age delay, and bilaterally enlarged multicystic ovaries. Delays in the diagnosis and treatment of hypothyroidism can lead to this peculiar presentation.
