The ultrastructure of Toxocara canis eggs is described before and after exposure to microwaves. The morphology of normal eggs is compared to that of eggs from other helminths. Following treatment, the complete disorganization of the surface structure of the shell and the loss of much turgidity of the egg are observed. Power density was measured during several microwave diathermy treatment sessions in order to determine levels to which the physiotherapist might be exposed during normal practice. Measurements were made at a distance of 30 cm from the patient. In half the cases investigated readings were less than 10 mW cm-2, the maximum permissible level for continuous exposure during an 8-hour working day. A simple green approach for the production of benzylideneaniline oxides is offered. This contribution was performed via the condensation of phenylhydroxylamine with several aryl aldehydes, in the absence of both catalyst and solvent, and using microwave irradiation as the activating reaction mode. In addition, good yields of the products were achieved in a short time. It is also worth noting that the work-up procedure is simple and the products do not require further purification. Finally, an interesting comparison without the use of microwave irradiation is also discussed.

We studied the effects of microwave (2,440 MHz) induced febrile convulsions (FCs) on the behavior and development of 31 albino mice (OF1 strain), between 25 and 30 days old, in comparison with a group of 33 animals from the same litters. Previously a string test was adapted to measure the neurodevelopment of mice in the first 6 months of life with 82 animals of the same characteristics. The animals submitted to convulsions (fit temperature = 39.2 +/- 0.96 degrees C) showed normal growth, in fact they obtained better results in the test than the control mice (2-way ANOVA, p less than 0.01).
