Two patients are reported in whom hypertrophic cardiomyopathy was associated with myocardial bridging of the left anterior descending coronary artery. One had a history of angina and recurrent syncope, the other had chest pain and exertional dyspnoea. In each case the diagnosis was made by cross-sectional echocardiography and coronary angiography.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence and clinical effects of myocardial bridging (MB) in patients with apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (AHCM).
METHODS: Angiograms from 212 AHCM patients were reviewed to identify MB. The patients were classified into 2 groups: AHCM with and AHCM without MB. We reviewed patient records on cardiovascular (CV) risk factors, symptoms, CV events, and CV mortality.

Significant and serious cardiovascular end-points can be seen in patients with myocardial bridging although it has been thought as a benign condition. Unfortunately, there is no consensus on 'which diagnostic tool has prognostic significance?'. Conventional transthoracic echocardiography can be used for this purpose as in the presented case.
