Liposarcoma is one of the most common soft-tissue sarcomas and classified as five groups. Dedifferentiated liposarcoma includes multiple elements such as solid tissue, adipose tissue and calcified tissue, which is different from common liposarcoma in tissue constitue. Dedifferentiation to osteosarcoma is rarely described in the literature. We reported the radiological and pathological findings in a case of dedifferentiated liposarcoma with osteo-sarcomatous dedifferentiation in the retroperitoneum and discussed the characteristic features of this specific tumor. Complete surgical resection of

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) encompass a wide and unusual group of neoplasms with features of neural differentiation. They most commonly present as spindle cell neoplasms and it can be difficult to differentiate them from other spindle cell neoplasms such as leiomyosarcomas, fibrosarcomas and synovial sarcomas. Strict criteria need to be applied in order to make the diagnosis of MPNSTs. Helpful features include contiguity with a nerve or an association with von Recklinghausen disease. The use of immunohistochemical stains may also help to confirm the diagnosis. Markers suc

BACKGROUND: Lipoma is a benign neoplasm originated from adipose cells circumscribed by connective tissue. This neoplasm represents about 1% to 4.4% of all oral benign tumors and it is rarely located in the palate area.
OBJECTIVE: This case reports the occurrence of an oral lipoma in the hard palate of a 57-year-old woman and discusses its etiology and treatment.
CASE REPORT: The treatment consisted in the total resection of the lesion and laser therapy. The patient is being followed up for forty three months with no signs of recurrence.
CONCLUSION: Lipoma in hard palate is a rare entity tha

Cerebellar liponeurocytoma is a rare neoplasm with distinctive morphologic features. It typically involves the cerebellar hemispheres of middle-aged to older adults. The tumor is composed of a uniform population of neurocytic cells possessing round to oval nuclei and pale to clear cytoplasm. A variable degree of lipidization of the tumor cells is present, lending a resemblance to mature adipose tissue. Immunohistochemistry serves to confirm the neurocytic differentiation of the tumor cells. In the 2007 revision of the World Health Organization classification of central nervous system tumors, c

Lipoma is a common benign soft-tissue neoplasm derived from mature adipose tissue neoplasm, but its presence in the oral and pharyngeal region is relatively uncommon. Oral lipoma was first described by Roux in 1848 as "yellow epulis." It has an incidence rate of about 1%-4% of all benign oral lesions, with a prevalence rate of about 0.0002%. Fibrolipoma is an extremely rare subtype of lipoma which accounts for 1.6% of all facial lipomas. Specific anatomic locations of occurrence within the oral and maxillofacial region include the parotid region, buccal mucosa, lips, submandibular region, tong

Angiomyolipoma is a well described but relatively uncommon benign renal neoplasm composed of varying admixtures of mature adipose tissue, smooth muscle, and thick-walled blood vessels. The incidence of angiomyolipoma is about 0.3% overall. It frequently occurs in patients with tuberous sclerosis. Even more uncommon is the simultaneous occurrence of angiomyolipoma and renal cell cancer in the same kidney in a patient without tuberous sclerosis.

The chest radiographic, echocardiographic (transthoracic and transesophageal), MRI, CT and cardiac catheterization findings in a 72-year-old patient with extensive pericardial lipomatosis are presented. Diastolic pressures in the left heart were elevated. The massive lipomatous mass was partially resected surgically with good symptomatic relief. Histologically the neoplasm consisted of mature non-malignant adipose tissue. Cushing's Syndrome was absent.

Sarcomas are neoplasms originating from connective tissues of any anatomical region; the sarcoma of spermatic cord is a rare neoplasm with only little more than two hundred cases described in the literature. Rhabdomyosarcomas in childhood and leiomyosarcomas in adults are the most frequent histological types. Liposarcomas, fibrosarcomas and osteosarcomas are less frequent. The spermatic cord liposarcoma originates from the spermatic cord fatty tissue and therefore it consist of adipose cells, fibroblasts and myxomatosus cells; such neoplasms are usually very well differentiated. Proteus syndrome is caused by an activating AKT1 mutation (c.49G>A, p.Glu17Lys). Many variable features are possible in this mosaic disorder, including: (i) disproportionate, asymmetric, and distorting overgrowth; (ii) bone abnormalities different from those observed in other disorders; (iii) a characteristic cerebriform connective tissue nevus made up of highly collagenized connective tissue; (iv) epidermal nevi in early life, consisting of acanthosis and hyperkeratosis; (v) vascular malformations of the capillary, venous, or lymphatic types; (vi) dysregulated adipose tissue including lipomas

BACKGROUND: There is no standard surgical method for treating pancreatic head tumors with fat replacement of the pancreatic body and tail. Total pancreatectomy procedures are usually performed to excise pancreatic head tumors and lead to endocrine function loss and subsequent development of diabetes. We present a rare case where the adipose tissue was preserved during pancreaticoduodenectomy in a patient with a solid pseudopapillary neoplasm and fat-replaced pancreatic body and tail.

Background: Proteus syndrome is characterized by a progressive segmental or patchy growth of bone, skin, adipose tissue, and central nervous system, associated with a wide range of neoplasms, pulmonary pathology, and thrombotic risk. The main histological findings are diffuse patchy overgrowth of skin and subcutaneous tissue, plantar cerebriform connective tissue nevus, and ossification defects. Case report: We present a patient that met the clinical and histological criteria necessary for the diagnosis of the disease. He required multiple surgical interventions, including amputation of the ri

We describe the first reported occurrence of a composite cutaneous lymphoma involving a mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) and primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma. The lesion occurred in a 76-year-old man with longstanding MCL who developed nodular skin lesions on his trunk and extremities. Biopsy revealed a CD30-positive lymphoma with pathological features characteristic of cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma in the superficial dermis and a subjacent deposit of MCL in the deep dermis and subcutaneous adipose tissue. Immunophenotyping demonstrated T versus B lymphoid origin, respecti

OBJECTIVE: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) represents the only curative treatment option for several hematological neoplasms. This study aimed to assess the parameters of body composition as predictors of post-transplant overall survival (OS) and adverse events in patients with leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN).
METHODS: This was a retrospective study of 122 adult patients who underwent their first allo-HSCT. The CT-based semi-automated measurement of subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT), visceral adipose tissue (VAT)

The clinical and pathological data were reviewed on 17 patients with benign endobronchial mesenchymal tumors seen at the New England Deaconess Hospital between 1942 and 1981. The tumors were compared histologically to 147 intraparenchymal hamartomas studied during the same period. Thirteen tumors involved central bronchi and four occupied small, peripheral airways. These 17 lesions displayed overlapping histological features and ranged from predominantly cartilaginous to lipomatous growths. Mixtures of cartilage and other mesenchymal elements characterized 14 tumors, and adipose tissue was the

Lipomatous hypertrophy of the interatrial septum (LHIS) is a rare benign heart disease characterized by excessive deposition of adipose tissue in the atrial septum with sparing fossa ovalis, which demonstrates a characteristic hourglass/dumbbell configuration. We reported a case of LHIS with inhomogenous characteristic on CMR and persistently no FDG uptake on 18F-FDG PET-CT, which is contrary to a few previous cases. This single case report suggests that in case LHIS present in-homogenous characteristic on CMR, metabolic PET imaging could be used as a complementary imaging model to decrease th

Myxoid adipocytic tumors encompass a broad heterogeneous group of benign and malignant adipocytic tumors, which are typically myxoid (e.g. myxoid liposarcoma, lipoblastoma and lipoblastoma-like tumor of the vulva) or may occasionally appear predominantly myxoid (e.g. pleomorphic liposarcoma, atypical lipomatous tumor, dedifferentiated liposarcoma, chondroid lipoma, spindle cell/pleomorphic lipoma, atypical spindle cell lipomatous tumor and atypical pleomorphic lipomatous tumor). There have been significant advances in recent years in classification and understanding the pathogenesis of adipocy

Lipoma is a common, benign soft tissue neoplasm consisting of mature adipocytes. Other variants exist, notably angiomyxolipoma, also referred to as vascular myxolipoma, which is an exceedingly rare benign lipomatous tumor characterized by the intimate admixture of three components: mature adipose tissue, paucicellular myxoid stroma, and a prominent vascular network. We present the case of a 55-year-old female patient who presented with a palatal swelling. Histopathological examination after surgical excision revealed an angiomyxolipoma. No abnormalities were noted after one year. Angiomyxolipo

BACKGROUND: Spindle cell lipomas (SL) and pleomorphic lipomas (PL) are rare variants of lipomas, occurring predominantly in the head and neck region. Laryngeal SL/PL is very uncommon and causes obstructive symptoms needing immediate intervention. These tumors are often challenging in radiology due to the admixture of elements and the presence of adipose tissue may help in diagnosis. From a surgeon's perspective, understanding the nuances of SL/PL is paramount. Histology is the gold standard for diagnosis; however, it often causes diagnostic challenges in biopsy. Method: A retrospective review

Ten spindle cell thymomas with prominent angiomatoid features are presented. The patients, consisting of 8 men and 2 women, are between the ages of 47 and 62, with an average age of 54.5. Clinically, 8 patients experienced chest pain, cough, and dyspnea, while 2 patients were asymptomatic. Diagnostic imaging revealed an anterior mediastinal mass in all patients, leading to surgical resection. The resected neoplasms varied in size from 3 to 5 cm in diameter and were described as well-circumscribed, hemorrhagic, with solid areas. Histologically, they exhibited extensive areas of hemorrhage with
