Becker's nevus is a benign lesion that may be congenital or acquired, macular or papular, hairless or hypertrichotic. It is most commonly located on the upper trunk of young men. Histologic examination shows characteristic changes, but dermal nevus cells are never present. Bony and soft tissue structural anomalies occur with increased frequency in patients with Becker's nevus.

A 31-year-old woman had an organoid nevus characterized by multiple trichilemmal cysts arranged in a bandlike pattern. The involved streaks followed Blaschko's lines and were covered, in addition, by multiple filiform hyperkeratoses and comedo-like plugs. Some histopathologic features of this complex nevus were reminiscent of those of well-established organoid nevi such as nevus comedonicus, porokeratotic eccrine nevus, or hair follicle nevus, but the presence of multiple large trichilemmal cysts was a conspicuously distinctive abnormality. Consequently, we propose for this new organoid nevus …

We report a case of congenital organoid nevus with an excessive number of apocrine glands. A one-year-old boy presented with a slowly enlarging keratotic element in the left temporal region, and biopsy showed hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, follicular plugging and multiple transverse sections of mature apocrine glands filling the reticular dermis. The lesion was benign and treatment was therefore conservative. In rare cases, various types of adnexal neoplasms may develop, but malignant tumours occur very seldom.

One hundred and three cases of Spitz nevi were reviewed, 36% of these patients were adults. The lesions in children occurred primarily on the face and secondarily on the trunk followed by the extremities. In adults, they affect the legs in women, and the trunk in men as does malignant melanoma. Clinically they were diagnosed more frequently as Spitz nevi in children and adolescents than in adults. Spitz nevi were most commonly mistaken clinically for "common" melanocytic nevus, hemangioma, verruca, fibrous histiocytoma, molluscum contagiosum, granuloma pyogenicum, keloid, and melanoma. Histolo…

Blue nevi are a heterogeneous group of lesions that can display a variety of different clinicopathological characteristics. Although attempts are made to classify each lesion into defined subtypes, there can be overlap between the subtypes. The clinical and histolopathologic features of common blue nevi and cellular blue nevi are discussed, as well as blue nevi with atypical features and malignant lesions with features of blue nevi.

We report a case of a 16-year-old male with a woolly hair nevus, an associated ipsilateral epidermal nevus who also had a white plaque on his tongue, clinically diagnosed as a white sponge nevus. The concurrent findings of a white sponge nevus, a woolly hair nevus, and an ipsilateral epidermal nevus, to our knowledge, have not been previously reported.

Nevus of Ota, nevus of Ito and nevus of Hori are special melanocytic nevi that have a slate-brown or blue/grey coloring. They are pigmented disorders characterized by its heterotopic melanocytic dermal location and by blue/brown unilateral and sometimes bilateral facial patch in case of nevus of Ota, and in the supraclavicular, scapular, and deltoid region in case of nevus of Ito. It is more common in patients with Asian and dark-skinned ethnic backgrounds. Histologically, elongated, dendritic melanocytes are seen scattered mainly throughout the upper third of reticular dermis. An acquired var…

Nevus of Ota, also known as oculodermal melanocytosis, is a congenital pigmentary condition that can affect structures in the distribution of the ophthalmic and maxillary divisions of the trigeminal cranial nerve. Malignant transformation, although rare, may occur within nevus of Ota and result in uveal, cutaneous, orbital or even dural melanoma. We present a new association of Nevus of Ota complicated with a giant orbital Blue Nevus in a young white male and the management of this tumor.

Dermal melanocytosis is characterized by the presence of spindle-shaped melanocytes in the dermis. Common forms include Mongolian spots, nevus of Ota, nevus of Ito, and blue nevus. Nevus of Ota typically presents as bluish-brown patches involving the sclera and the cutaneous regions innervated by the ophthalmic and maxillary branches of the trigeminal nerve unilaterally. Blue nevus usually manifests as a solitary lesion. Agminated blue nevus is a rare variant that often presents as grouped, linear, or blaschkoid-distributed deep blue macules or papules. Only a few cases have reported the co-oc…

BACKGROUND: We compare features of two similar nevi which may be confused with melanoma: deep penetrating nevus (DPN), and nevus with focal atypical epithelioid component (NFAEC).
METHODS: Clinical/demographic and histologic information regarding 146 DPN and 81 NFAEC were compared. Patient outcomes were ascertained via a questionnaire solicited to the referring physicians.
RESULTS: Clinical features were similar for each type of nevus. Histologically, all lesions demonstrated identical aggregates of epithelioid melanocytes. DPN more often extended into the deep dermis or subcutaneous tissue,…

Dysplastic nevus is a controversial category of melanocytic nevi. Formerly regarded as "formal histogenetic precursors of melanoma" or intermediate lesions in the progression of "common acquired nevi" to melanoma, dysplastic nevi are now considered to be benign melanocytic nevi that may simulate melanoma histopathologically. The dysplastic nevus is a very common type of melanocytic nevus. It is limited to the epidermis and papillary dermis, with the epidermal component extending beyond the dermal one; composed mostly of melanocytes with small, monomorphous nuclei; and also known as Clark's nev…
