Symptomatic Mesenteric Panniculitis Associated With a Suspicious Cecal Lesion: A Case Report.

Mesenteric panniculitis is an uncommon inflammatory disorder involving the adipose tissue of the mesentery. Although it is frequently discovered incidentally on computed tomography (CT), it may occasionally present with nonspecific abdominal symptoms, making diagnosis challenging. We report the case of an 85-year-old woman who presented with a three-day history of acute abdominal pain. Contrast-enhanced abdominopelvic CT demonstrated increased attenuation of the mesenteric fat with small subcentimeter mesenteric lymph nodes, producing a "misty mesentery" appearance consistent with mesenteric p

Mesenteric panniculitis: A comprehensive description of a rare disease.

Mesenteric panniculitis (MP) is a rare disease characterized by chronic inflammation and fibrosis of the mesenteric adipose tissue. It is a benign disease that is influenced by many factors, mainly abdominal trauma and surgery. At present, the pathogenesis and clinical characteristics of MP are still not clear. Most patients with MP are asymptomatic, few will present gastrointestinal symptoms, especially abdominal pain. The diagnosis of MP mainly relies on imaging, such as CT. Medicine treatment is unnecessary for asymptomatic patients, and the curative effect of glucocorticoids is effective i

Uncommon solitary mesenteric mass: mesenteric panniculitis.

Mesenteric panniculitis is a rare, benign disease characterized by a chronic non-specific inflammatory process of mesenteric fat tissue with unknown etiology. Its clinical outcome ranges from complete resolution without any treatment to rapid progression culminating in death. So far, there is no established treatment available for its management. A 53-year-old female was admitted to our hospital because of intermittent abdominal pain, abdominal distension and early satiety for three months. Her abdominal CT scan revealed a solitary, well-defined, heterogeneous mass with a diameter of approxima

[Mesenteric panniculitis--case report].

Mesenteric panniculitis is a very rare disease usually involving the mesentery of the small bowel, less frequently the sigmoid colon or other intraabdominal fat tissue. The disease is benign with a favorable prognosis. Diagnosis is, as a rule, established at operation or autopsy and histology. A 58 year old male with this disease is presented. The paticut hod mild abdominal pain and a palpable mass. A tumor of the mesentery was suspected on CT scan. The exact diagnosis was established at operation and confirmed at histology.

Mesenteric Panniculitis and COVID-19: A Rare Association.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) typically involves the respiratory system, but gastrointestinal involvement is common. Further, patients with severe COVID-19 are at high risk to develop gastrointestinal complications, including bowel ischemia, ileus, and deranged liver enzymes. We present the case of a 44-year-old woman with mild COVID-19 pneumonia who was in home isolation. Ten days after the isolation, the patient presented to the emergency department complaining of generalized abdominal pain that was sharp in nature and associated with nausea and recurrent episodes of vomiting. The pati

IgG4 related sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis with cocoon formation: An unusual and undescribed presentation.

IgG4-related sclerosing mesenteritis is a rare disease of mesentery of an unknown etiology which shows a constellation of histopathologic findings of lymphoplasmacytic inflammation with IgG4-positive plasma cells and marked fibrosis. This chronic inflammatory condition of mesentery forming an abdominal cocoon has never been described before to the best of our knowledge. Here, we report a patient with a history of subacute small bowel obstruction who was found to have an intra-abdominal encapsulating mass in the right iliac fossa and was finally diagnosed as IgG4-related sclerosing encapsulatin

Mesenteric panniculitis, a rare cause of acute surgical abdomen in children. Case report and literature review.

Mesenteric panniculitis appears as a less known benign condition due to its infrequency and not fully elucidated etiology; currently, less than 20 cases in children have been reported. It is characterized by a fibrotic and inflammatory transformation of the mesentery fat of the small intestine and, less commonly, of the colon. The 8-year-old patient whose case we report presented in our Service complaining of acute digestive symptoms. A causality relation with the small yet frequent injuries the child suffered at the abdominal level during his sports practice may be hypothesized, although this

[A case of mesenteric panniculitis].

Mesenteric panniculitis can be considered as an evolved state of a mesenteric disease, with a first phase of mesenteric lipodystrophy without inflammatory signs, followed by a second phase of panniculitis, ending in fibrosis, at which point it is denominated retractile mesentiritis, which principally affects males over the age of 50. Its aetiology is unknown, with a description made of different associated factors, and its clinical presentation is variable, depending on the stage of the disease. The image test indicated for its diagnosis is the TAC, while an histopathological study provides th

[A case of chylothorax caused by mesenteric panniculitis].

A 76-year-old female was referred to our hospital for examination of milky pleural effusion. We diagnosed her illness as chylothorax because of the high concentration of triglyceride in the effusion. There was neither obstruction nor damage of the thoracic duct. Systemic evaluation disclosed an abdominal mass in the umbilical region. Fasting with intravenous hyperalimentation followed by pleurodesis with minocycline successfully eliminated the effusion. On the other hand, the abdominal mass was diagnosed as mesenteric panniculitis by open biopsy. Since she also had chylous ascites, the tumor c

[Intra-abdominal pseudotumorous panniculitis. CAT scan aspects of a case localized in the greater omentum].

Intra-abdominal panniculitis is an inflammatory and necrotic reaction to local, general or undetermined aggressions to intra- or retro-peritoneal fatty tissue. A case localized to the greater omentum is described and findings on CT scan imaging reported: encapsulated, heterogeneous mass of fatty density with fibrous bands and with fascial thickenings. Diagnosis is based mainly on histopathology, the CT scan being incapable, despite the clinical context, of formally rejecting a diagnosis of liposarcoma.

Visceral extra-abdominal panniculitis after COVID19.

"Retractile mesenteritis" was the first name given to a rare, benign, inflammatory disease that affects the adipose tissue of the intestinal mesentery and less frequently other locations. Now labeled as mesenteric panniculitis, the pathogenic mechanism remains unclear. Several stimuli could be involved, and it is sometimes associated with other conditions such as malignancy or autoimmune diseases. We present a case of mesenteric panniculitis with extensive abdominal and extra-abdominal involvement that developed a few months after SARS-COV2 infection, raising the hypothesis of this virus as a
