OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the outcomes of the surgical correction of unilateral choanal atresia using a transnasal approach.
PATIENTS AND METHOD: Over a 36-months period (from 1999 to 2001), seven children underwent endoscopic endonasal repair of an unilateral choanal atresia using the microdebrider (powered instrumentation). INTRODUCTION: Tranexamic acid is used for the treatment of hyperpigmentation, and the topical route is the most favorable route for its administration. Tranexamic acid lowers plasmin and tyrosinase, which reduces melanin and skin hyperpigmentation. METHODS: 14 consecutive patients treated with 1-6 cycles of topical 0.04% MMC four times daily for periods of 2 weeks were interviewed about symptoms of lacrimal duct malfunction. A 52-year-old woman developed persistent epiphora in her left eye after undergoing occlusion of the left puncta. Two attempts to reopen the puncta with a one-snip procedure and placement of punctal silicone plugs failed.
