Patient Satisfaction Survey for Inpatient Tobacco Cessation Treatment.

PurposePatient satisfaction is a key principle of high-quality care, important to all health systems. The Satisfaction with Inpatient Tobacco Treatment Study (1) proposes a novel survey tool to measure patient satisfaction with inpatient tobacco treatment and (2) provides survey results from our hospital's Tobacco Treatment Program.DesignCreation and administration of an 8-item Likert scale survey to assess inpati…

Patient satisfaction with follow-up after spinal fusion.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative follow-up visits (PFUs) allow providers to track patient recovery but can be costly to patients. With the advent of the novel coronavirus pandemic, virtual/phone visits have been utilized as an alternative to in-person PFUs. Patients were surveyed to elucidate patient satisfaction with postoperative care in the setting of increased virtual follow-up visits. A prospective survey with retrospective cohort analysis of chart data was conducted to better understand the factors influencing patient satisfaction related to their PFUs after spine fusion with the goal of improv…

Periwound Challenges Improve Patient Satisfaction in Wound Care.

In wound care, we usually focus nearly all of our efforts on the wound area while paying little attention to the periwound area. Although the periwound area may seem unimportant, it matters to patients. A female patient was admitted with a wound at the perianal area. Wound dressing was performed using standard wet-to-dry gauzes. The patient had several small complaints including irritant contact dermatitis, skin maceration, pain during dressing change, and fecal contamination to the wound. In this case, we ended up switching to a different method of wound dressing. We went from using wet-to-dr

Determinants of Patient Satisfaction in Celiac Disease Care.

BACKGROUND AND GOALS: There are little data examining patient satisfaction with celiac disease (CD) care. We sought to assess how satisfied patients are with their CD care, and to determine the influencing factors. STUDY: We distributed an online questionnaire to adults receiving programmatic updates from a CD referral center, querying aspects of CD care and using disease-specific validated instruments to measure quality of life and dietary adherence. The univariable and multivariable analyses were performed using satisfaction as a binary outcome comparing grouped "satisfied" and "very satisf…

Patient satisfaction with correction of congenital penile curvature.

BACKGROUND: Congenital penile curvature is a relatively rare disease, resulting from a deviation of the penis from the body's straight axis when erect. The prevalence is difficult to determine. Although it has been suggested that the condition could affect up to 10% of the male population, most of these deviations are minor, with no clinical or psychological importance, which leads to its underdiagnosis. Effective correction of the deviation can markedly improve the quality of life of adolescents with this condition. OBJECTIVE: To assess the quality of the sex life of patients diagnosed with

Patient satisfaction after closed reduction of nasal fractures.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the outcome of closed reduction from a patient's point of view, because there is increasing evidence that closed reduction of nasal fractures fails to address deformities of the cartilaginous nasal framework and the septum. METHODS: We performed a retrospective study of 62 patients who underwent a closed reduction of nasal fracture between July 1, 2002, and June 30, 2005. All patients were interviewed regarding the esthetic and functional outcomes after closed reduction. RESULTS: Eighteen patients (29%) expressed dissatisfaction with the esthetic outcome of the reducti

Patient satisfaction measurement in the disease management industry.

In mid-2004, the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA) Patient Satisfaction Workgroup in association with J.D. Power and Associates (JDPA) conducted a literature review and a member survey to gain an understanding of the nature of patient satisfaction measurement as it pertains to disease management (DM) programs within the DM industry. A review of the relevant literature indicates that perhaps, with the exception of diabetes disease management, there are no prevalent, systematic, or statistically validated approaches for measuring patient satisfaction within the disease management …

Factors predicting orofacial pain patient satisfaction with improvement.

AIMS: To determine psychosocial predictors of patients' ratings of satisfaction with improvement and subjective pain relief. METHODS: The sample consisted of 107 chronic orofacial pain patients evaluated at a university-based orofacial pain clinic and referred for treatment with individualized treatment plans. Pain and psychosocial functioning were assessed with standard, reliable, validated self-report instruments administered at the initial evaluation. Follow-up data were c…

Patient satisfaction and symptom relief after anal dilatation.

Anal dilatation is used as a simple method of treatment and has been used for both anal fissure and haemorrhoids. This study examined longer-term results among a cohort of 162 patients, 132 of whom responded to a detailed questionnaire, an 82% response (66 patients were male; age range 17-75 years, median 42 years). Follow-up ranged from 16 months to 36 months (median 27 months) after anal dilatation (68 patients for fissure, 32 for haemorrhoids, and 32 for both). In the early months after dilatation, 83% had symptomatic improvement and 76% remained improved. Five (7%) patients with fissure an

Customer care. Patient satisfaction in the prehospital setting.

The focus of the study was to prioritize six emergency medical service treatment factors in terms of their impact upon patient satisfaction in the prehospital setting. The six treatment areas analyzed were: EMS response time; medical care provided on scene; explanation of care by the provider; the provider's ability to reduce patient anxiety; the provider's ability to meet the patient's non-medical needs; and the level of courtesy/politeness shown by the EMS provider toward the patient. Telephone interviews were conducted with both patients and bystanders to obtain their perception of how well…
