Warty Condylomatous Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Penis in a 19-Year-Old.

Warty carcinoma of the penis is an unusual neoplasm and a variant of penile squamous cell carcinoma. As with other types of penile cancer, risk factors include human papillomavirus infection, poor personal hygiene, and being uncircumcised. The typical case is an exophytic mass arising from the glans penis, frequently large (4-5 cm), and with invasion into corpus spongiosum. The diagnosis is typically made by tumor biopsy. Treatment depends on the stage of disease and includes partial vs total penectomy, with or without prophylactic or therapeutic bilateral lymphadenectomy. We present an unusua

Primary and secondary malignancies of the penis: ultrasound features.

Cancer of the penis is a rare neoplasm in developed countries but worldwide represents a significant health problem. In this study, the ultrasonographic features of primary and secondary malignant lesions of the penis are described. Squamous cell carcinoma usually presents as a hypoechoic lesion with heterogeneous appearance. Invasions of the corpora cavernosa and the corpus spongiosum are appreciable. B-cell lymphoma presents as well-vascularized mass, a plaque, or ulcers in the penile skin. Penile metastases results from hematogenous or lymphatic spreading of distant tumors or, more frequent

Pilonidal cyst of the penis mimicking carcinoma.

Pilonidal sinus is a long-standing chronic inflammatory condition consisting of a sinus tract from the skin-lined orifice extending into subcutaneous tissue, with hairs attached to the wall of the tract and projecting outside of the opening. Penile location is rare, and differential diagnosis with severe balanoposthitis, epidermal cysts, and neoplasms can be difficult. We report a rare case of pilonidal cyst located between coronal sulcus and prepuce which, due to its ulcerated aspect and absence of a tract with projecting hairs, simulated a penile carcinoma.

Report From the International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) Consultation Conference on Molecular Pathology of Urogenital Cancers V: Recommendations on the Use of Immunohistochemical and Molecular Biomarkers in Penile Cancer.

Penile cancer and its precursor lesions are morphologically and clinically heterogenous and they can be further characterized by immunohistochemical (IHC) and molecular genetic analyses. According to the current World Health Organization (WHO) classification, penile intraepithelial neoplasia (PeIN) and invasive penile carcinomas can be grouped into human papillomavirus (HPV)-related and non-HPV-related neoplasms. This distinction is clinically relevant for etiological and prognostic reasons. To gain insight into the current use of molecular testing and IHC in their diagnostics, a survey was he

The World Health Organisation 2016 classification of penile carcinomas: a review and update from the International Society of Urological Pathology expert-driven recommendations.

The International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) held an expert-driven penile cancer conference in Boston in March 2015, which focused on the new World Health Organisation (WHO) classification of penile cancer: human papillomavirus (HPV)-related tumours and histological grading. The conference was preceded by an online survey of the ISUP members, and the results were used to initiate discussions. Because of the rarity of penile tumours, this was not a consensus but an expert-driven conference aimed at assisting pathologists who do not see these tumours on a regular basis. After a justi

Unusual cases of penile vascular tumors in dogs: report of two cases.

Vascular tumors affecting the reproductive tract in male dogs, including hemangiomas and hemangiosarcomas, are rarely reported in veterinary medicine. However, they are more frequently observed in other anatomical sites in dogs such as the skin, spleen, and the liver. Despite their low incidence in the genital region, these neoplasms should be considered when compatible clinical signs are observed. This case report describes the clinical and pathological findings of two penile vascular neoplasms in dogs, highlighting their differing prognoses. The first case was classified as hemangiosarcoma a

The Evolving Landscape of Viral, Immune, and Molecular Biomarkers in Penile Cancer.

Penile cancer is relatively rare in North America and Europe (<1% of all malignant neoplasms); however, it remains a significant health concern with a higher propensity of cases in many African, South American, and Asian countries. It occurs primarily in older men with a peak incidence in the 6th decade of life. The etiology of penile cancer is multifactorial and there are many risk factors including lack of neonatal circumcision, chronic inflammation, lichen sclerosis, tobacco use, obesity, poor hygiene, exposure to ultraviolet radiation, history of sexually transmitted diseases, and human pa

Lymphoma presenting as cancer of the glans penis: a case report.

Penile lymphoma is a very rare neoplasm. We report the case of an 82-year-old man who presented with phimosis. The patient also complained of frequent and painful urination. Upon examination a painless penile ulcer and multiple enlarged inguinal lymph nodes were found. The shaft of the penis and the prostate were hard on palpation. Abdominal and transrectal ultrasound examination confirmed the involvement of the penis shaft and the prostate and also revealed involvement of the urinary bladder. Biopsy showed diffuse, large B-cell lymphoma. The patient was treated with systemic chemotherapy with

Locally recurrent penile apocrine carcinoma initially diagnosed as metastatic adenocarcinoma of colon.

Apocrine carcinoma is a rare malignant adnexal neoplasm. The differential diagnosis between apocrine carcinoma and cutaneous metastasis is often difficult. Here, we report a case of locally recurrent penile apocrine carcinoma initially diagnosed as metastatic adenocarcinoma of the colon. A 75-year-old man with a history of surgical resection due to sigmoid colon cancer and penile metastasis two years prior to this study presented with a nodule at the left penile base. He underwent a wide local resection of the penile mass under a suggested preoperative diagnosis of extra-mammary Paget's diseas

Papillary squamous cell carcinoma, not otherwise specified (NOS) of the penis: clinicopathologic features, differential diagnosis, and outcome of 35 cases.

There is a group of low-grade papillomatous squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) of the penis, collectively designated as "verruciform," that are difficult to classify. A proposal of classification grouped these tumors in warty (condylomatous), verrucous, and papillary carcinomas. Papillary SCC, not otherwise specified is the third distinctive type of penile low-grade verruciform neoplasms. We are presenting clinicopathologic features of 35 cases from 2 institutions. All specimens were penectomies or circumcisions. Mean age was 57 years. Sites of involvement were glans alone in 18 cases (51%), glans

Ulcerative balanoposthitis of the foreskin as a manifestation of chronic lymphocytic leukemia: case report and review of the literature.

Ulcerative lesions of the penis have many possible etiologies, including infectious, neoplastic, traumatic, drug-induced, and autoimmune. Although the most frequent neoplasm presenting as an ulcerative penile lesion is squamous cell carcinoma, it may rarely be a manifestation of other malignancies, including those of hematolymphoid origin. We report a case of ulcerative balanoposthitis as a manifestation of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia and other hematolymphoid malignancies should be considered in the large differential diagnosis of nonhealing penile ulcers.

Bilateral corpus cavernosum thrombosis revealing penile synovial sarcoma.

Corpus cavernosum thrombosis is rare, and its association with penile malignancy is exceptionally uncommon. Although most penile cancers are squamous cell carcinomas, primary synovial sarcoma is exceedingly rare. We report a 36-year-old man with bilateral corpus cavernosum thrombosis and persistent perineal pain, managed conservatively for two years, during which imaging failed to identify a neoplasm. He later developed a rapidly enlarging penile mass with nodal involvement; total penectomy with lymphadenectomy confirmed synovial sarcoma. Early recurrence with metastatic progression required p

An unusual etiology of bilateral pulmonary nodules: Another challenge of hide and seek.

An elderly gentleman presented with bilateral pulmonary nodules found incidentally during the workup of acute pancreatitis. He did not have any respiratory or urogenital symptoms. A biopsy of the lung nodule revealed myxoid mesenchymal neoplasm of extraosseous origin. As the patient was asymptomatic, only the increased uptake in the penile shaft base on the whole-body PET-CT study yielded a diagnosis of primary penile chondrosarcoma after biopsy. Traumatic thrombophlebitis of the superficial dorsal vein of the penis: an occupational hazard.

Several cases of thrombophlebitis of the superficial dorsal vein of the penis (TSDVP) have been reported in the literature. Etiologies may include any of the following: trauma associated with vigorous sexual intercourse; penile strangulation caused by a multitude of entities; penile injection; infection; neoplasm; or surgery. We report a rare case of traumatic TSDVP in a cab driver following repeated injury to the penis by a coin-filled pouch. We review the etiologies, mechanism, and treatment of traumatic TSDVP, and attempt to identify men who may be at similar occupational risk.

Sebaceous carcinoma of the penis: As aggressive as it is rare.

Malignant neoplasm of the penis is a rare cancer in industrialized countries but is not uncommon in India. Nearly 95% of penile cancer is squamous cell carcinoma. Malignant neoplasms of the sebaceous glands, which are mostly confined to the head and neck region, are even rarer. We present a 74-year-old male with sebaceous cell carcinoma of the penis. He underwent excision of the primary lesion with bilateral inguinal lymph node dissection followed by adjuvant chemotherapy.

[Tumor of the penis--analysis of 300 cases].

300 cases of penile tumor are reported. The age peak was over 41 years (79.0%). Of these 300 cases, (66.7%) had redundant prepuce and 78 (26.0%) had phimosis which implies that penile tumors are closely related to those two conditions. Surgical treatment consisted of partial resection of penis in 182 (60.7%) patients, total resection in 66 (22.0%) and ilioinguinal lymphadenectomy after resection in 29 (9.7%). The pathological findings showed that in majority of cases, it was squamous cell carcinoma (270, 90.0%). Only 90 (30.0%) patients survived among the followed up patients. 20 patients have

Malignant neoplasms of the penis are infrequent, with sarcomas accounting for 5% of all cases. Synovial sarcoma is a specific subtype that has been reported in the scientific literature in this location on four occasions with clinically aggressive behavior, requiring oncologic resection of the lesion and management with complementary chemotherapeutic agents. The origin of these penile lesions is unknown and has been associated with predisposing factors such as previous exposure to radiotherapy and the presence of the SS18-SSX1/2/4 fusion gene. We present an unusual case of monophasic penile sy

Diagnostic problems in precancerous lesions and invasive carcinomas of the penis.

Penile precancerous and invasive lesions exhibit a variegated morphology. Although the diagnosis and classification of penile tumors is straightforward in most cases, a few entities are problematic, especially to pathologists from countries in which penile cancer is rarely encountered. The differential diagnosis of squamous hyperplasias from differentiated penile intraepithelial neoplasia or from extremely low-grade invasive neoplasms (eg, pseudohyperplastic and verrucous carcinomas) may be particularly difficult. Similarly, given the morphologic features shared by all verruciform tumors (ie,

[MALIGNANT NEOPLASMS OF THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM IN MEN AND THEIR CONNECTION WITH THE HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS. (REVIEW)].

The issue of malignant tumor occurrence associated with viral infections is a particularly significant one. Approximately 15-20% of tumors have some connection with various viral infections. An extensive amount of data has been gathered on neoplasms of the female reproductive system linked to the human papillomavirus (HPV). However, the connection between papillomavirus infection and malignant neoplasms in the male reproductive system requires further investigation. The aim of this review is to examine the association between malignant neoplasms of the male reproductive system and HPV, as well
