Murine gammaherpesvirus-68 (MHV-68) has been established as a tractable model for the study of human herpesvirus infections. MuHV-4 is a natural pathogen of rodents of the genus Apodemus (e.g., wood mice, yellow-necked mice) and Myodes glareolus (bank voles).
