The anatomy of ovine salivary glands was studied on cadaver heads. The mandibular duct enters the oral cavity on the ventral surface of sublingual caruncles, which are located medial to the orifice of the ventral sublingual gland duct. The parotid gland duct enters the oral cavity on the cheek opposite the upper 2nd molar. A Tc-99m pertechnetate salivary gland scintigraphy, digital subtraction sialography (DSS) and cytological findings of a 48-year-old female who received I-131 therapy for the treatment of follicular carcinoma of thyroid are presented. PURPOSE: To revisit and reintroduce sialography as an important tool for the assessment and diagnosis of salivary gland obstruction.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A sample of 30 consecutive patients undergoing sialography was selected. Parotid sialography was performed in 22 patients (12 females and 10 males). The patients undergoing parotid sialography presented with bilateral or unilateral enlargement or swelling. BACKGROUND: Juvenile recurrent parotitis (JRP) is the second most common inflammatory salivary gland disease of childhood, after mumps. Diagnosis of JRP is usually based on clinical history of recurrent unilateral or bilateral parotid swelling and demonstration of sialectasis. Conventional sialography, digital sialography, US, MRI and sialoendoscopy have been used as investigative tools for the diagnosis of JRP. We performed Computed Tomography (CT) immediately following, or simultaneous with, conventional sialography on a group of 45 patients with parotid gland swellings over a two-year period. Stafne bone cavities (SBCs) are mandibular radiolucent lesions with challenging differential diagnoses. Many radiologic methods have been proposed to visualize the presence of salivary gland tissues inside the cavities. This report describes a case of bilateral angular mandibular radiolucent cavities located below the mandibular nerve canal. OBJECTIVES: Salivary duct stenoses account for approximately 15-25% of salivary gland obstructions. A well-recognized classification criterion for these stenoses has yet to be established. The present study aims to classify and characterize salivary duct stenoses based on sialography and sialendoscopy.

INTRODUCTION: Sialolithiasis is the most common disease of salivary glands. Sialography is particularly important for the assessment of the outflow tract and in diagnosing obstructive salivary gland lesions including calculi.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report on a 38-year-old female with sialolithiasis whom had Wharton's duct perforation, complicating the sialography. She was treated conservatively with a course of co-amoxiclav, oral prednisolone for three days and pain-killers. The patient was clinically well on follow-up reassessments at the end of the first week and three weeks post procedure.

We report two unusual cases of non-syndromic hypoplasia of the parotid gland. The hypoplastic parotid gland mimicked a preauricular parotid tumor in one case and presented as an incidental image finding in the other case. Absence of the deep lobe and isthmus of the parotid parenchyma could be determined on axial computed tomography (CT) by revealing fat tissue composition of the parotid space. The underdeveloped superficial lobe of the gland was observed on three-dimensional CT sialography.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the role of MR Sialography(MRS) in diagnosis of submandibular sialolithiasis.
METHODS: Twenty-one patients with submandibular sialolithiasis were scanned by MRS, the results of MRS were compared with those after proper treatment.
RESULTS: The results of MRS were consistent with those after proper treatment.
CONCLUSION: MRS has high diagnostic accuracy in diagnosis of sialolithiasis including submandibular sialadenitis.
