The aim of this paper was to evaluate silicon (Si) concentration in human whole ventricular blood as a further potential chemical marker in the diagnosis of drowning. Significant advances during the past decade in silicone hydrogel lenses have made them the primary mode for new contact lens wear. Silicone endoprostheses are used to replace loss of support in tracheobronchial cartilage. The main silicone stents are similar to those of the Montgomery T tube, the Westaby, Dumon and Cooper-Hood prostheses. The major indications are malignant tumours and benign stenosis after anastomotic resection or graft. All have in common a degree of narrowing greater than 50%. A 38-year-old woman had a migratory silicone granuloma of the left upper portion of the chest and left upper arm secondary to a ruptured breast implant. The initial diagnosis was factitial panniculitis. With the common use of silicone in cosmetic surgery, physicians should inquire into a possible history of silicone injections or implants before ascribing a factitial cause to foreign-body granulomas.

Silicone implant arthroplasty is, arguably, the most effective treatment for the majority of patients with symptomatic arthritis in the hand and wrist. A 45-year-old patient had routine cosmetic bilateral breast augmentation 6 years previously using cohesive gel implants. She presented 4 years later with a breast lump and multiple axillary lymph nodes.
