OBJECTIVES: Elderly living alone in South Korea report higher rates of psychological distress compared to the population at large. Using a person-centered approach, the aim of the present study was to identify the latent profiles of South Korean elderly living alone based on self-esteem, life satisfaction, and depression.

BACKGROUND: Timely hemostatic therapy is essential when persons with hemophilia (PwH) present to the emergency department (ED), with guidelines recommending treatment at the time a bleed is suspected ('Factor First' strategy).

A series of 50 patients who underwent resection and anastomosis of the left colon have been analysed to determine the risk of anastomotic leakage. In all the patients one layer interrupted extramucosal suture of the bowel-wall was performed. BACKGROUND: Information on psychopathological characteristics of sexual homicide offenders is scarce.
AIMS: To investigate criminal, paraphilic and personality trait differences between serial and single-victim sexual homicide offenders.
METHODS: All 73 single-victim and 13 serial sexual homicide offenders presenting within a cohort of 671 men sentenced for sexual crimes between 1994 and 2005 and serving their sentence in one high-security Canadian prison and who consented to interview were assessed and compared on their offending patterns, personality pathology and paraphilic behaviours.

BACKGROUND: Suicidal behavior is often correlated with other-directed aggression, which is partially mediated by catecholaminergic neurotransmission. Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) is an enzyme involved in catecholamine inactivation. In this study, we examined the influence of a functional COMT (V158M) polymorphism on suicidal behavior and anger-related traits.
METHODS: This polymorphism was examined in 149 German suicide attempters and 328 German control subjects. Both groups were administered self-report questionnaires for anger-related traits.
