In a prospective multicentre study of gastric adenocarcinoma the problem of microscopic disease at the resection line was investigated. Of 390 patients with resected gastric cancer, 85 (22%) had disease of the resection margins--32 at the oesophagus, 20 at the gastric margin, 17 at the duodenum, and six at both margins (10 were unspecified). INTRODUCTION: Melanoma of gastrointestinal tract can be either primary or secondary to metastases from other sites like skin, mucous membranes, and uvea. Primary gastrointestinal melanoma is rare and still rarer is stomach involvement.
CASE REPORT: We report a case of primary malignant melanoma of stomach in a 50-year-old female who presented with an axillary lymphadenopathy.
CONCLUSION: Melanoma of stomach is rare. It has characteristic endoscopic appearance. Differentiation of primary from secondary melanoma is possible on clinical behavior and histological characteristics.

Although its declining incidence in most Western countries, gastric cancer remains a leading cause of cancer death. In France, it ranks second after colorectal cancer in terms of frequency. Chronic gastritis is the most frequent pathological condition that predispose to gastric cancer. One of the most important aetiological factor of gastric carcinogenesis is obviously the infection by Helicobacter pylori. A 55-year-old Japanese man was admitted to our hospital in January 1985 complaining of epigastralgia. Radiologic and endoscopic examinations showed gastric carcinoma, but biopsy specimens taken by surgery showed the histologic pattern of choriocarcinoma. On autopsy, multiple metastatic sites wer observed, and histological examination of the primary and metastatic sites revealed choriocarcinoma. Primary gastric choriocarcinoma may develop from gastric cancer by retrodifferentiation.

Aspirin often causes acute gastric mucosal damage that can be seen endoscopically or assessed indirectly (for example, by measuring increased gastrointestinal blood loss). A patient with acquired immune deficiency syndrome who developed symptoms of partial gastric outlet obstruction during the course of a severe diarrheal illness due to cryptosporidiosis is presented. Endoscopic evaluation of the stomach revealed an inflamed pyloric ring and channel with clinical evidence suggestive of partial outlet obstruction. Two cases of adenomyoma of the stomach and a review of previous reports in the literature are presented. Adenomyoma is a benign lesion of the pylorus of the stomach composed of smooth muscle, cysts, and glandular structures lined by all columnar epithelium, Brunner's glands, and sometimes pancreatic tissue. The histopathological and radiological characteristics of this lesion are discussed.
