Potassium induced potential changes in rat diaphragm muscle.

The effect of different potassium concentrations on the membrane potential and membrane resistance of rat diaphragm muscle fibres was measured by means of a double sucrose gap method and a microelectrode technique. Concentration measurements showed that the muscle fibres gained sodium and lost potassium in the equilibration period. In the absence of external chloride changing the external potassium concentration from 2.8 mM to potassium-free caused a depolarization of the membrane of about 30 mV and a small increase in membrane resistance. This K-dependent potential change (K-response) was ind

[At the origin of the development of russian angiology (dedicated to the 150 birthday of academician N.P. Kravkov)].

The article describes scientific activity of outstanding pharmacologist, Academician N.P. Kravkov (1865-1924) on studying dynamics of the vascular system in experiment: Using the method of isolated animal organs of animals, N.P. Kravkov discovered self-maintained periodic contractions of vessels independent of the central nervous system and not associated with cardiac contractions. On isolated animal organs (heart, kidneys, spleen, womb, pancreas and others) specialists of the laboratory of N.P. Kravkov studied vascular reactions and sensitivity of vascular zones to administration of pharmacol

Involvement of monocyte-derived extracellular vesicle-associated tissue factor activity in convallatoxin-induced hypercoagulability.

OBJECTIVES: Convallatoxin (CNT) is a natural cardiac glycoside extracted from lily of the valley ( Convallaria majalis ). Although it is empirically known to cause blood coagulation disorders, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. CNT exerts cytotoxicity and increases tissue factor (TF) expression in endothelial cells. However, the direct action of CNT on blood coagulation remains unclear. Therefore, herein, we investigated the effects of CNT on whole blood coagulation system and TF expression in monocytes. METHODS: Blood samples were collected from healthy volunteers to measure plasma th

New drug discovery of cardiac anti-arrhythmic drugs: insights in animal models.

Cardiac rhythm regulated by micro-macroscopic structures of heart. Pacemaker abnormalities or disruptions in electrical conduction, lead to arrhythmic disorders may be benign, typical, threatening, ultimately fatal, occurs in clinical practice, patients on digitalis, anaesthesia or acute myocardial infarction. Both traditional and genetic animal models are: In-vitro: Isolated ventricular Myocytes, Guinea pig papillary muscles, Patch-Clamp Experiments, Porcine Atrial Myocytes, Guinea pig ventricular myocytes, Guinea pig papillary muscle: action potential and refractory period, Langendorff techn
