Protocatechuic acid (PCA) is a valuable phenolic compound, and its rising demand has facilitated sustainable PCA bioproduction. Compared to glucose, low-cost methanol and pentose sugars like xylose do not have food-competing uses. Thus, we decided to engineer Corynebacterium glutamicum to coutilize them for PCA production. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is known to have a positive effect on the postharvest storage of vegetables and fruits, but limited results are available on its influence in fruit flavor quality. Here, we presented the effect of H2S on the flavor quality of tomato fruit during postharvest. H2S decreased the content of fructose, glucose, carotene and lycopene but increased that of soluble protein, organic acid, malic acid and citric acid. Two chromium(III) complexes of glucosaminic acid were synthesized by neutralization and exchange reaction. The formation of 1 : 1 and 2 : 3 (Cr : glucosaminate) complexes was confirmed by elemental analyses and spectroscopic studies. The effect of the complexes on decreasing blood sugar was investigated on type-2 diabetes model rats induced by tetraoxypyrimidine. The results indicated that the effect on decreasing blood sugar was comparable to that of picolinate chromium complex (Cr(pic)(3)) currently used world wide.

BACKGROUND: The Huangjiu (Chinese rice wine) is one of the most culturally important alcoholic beverages in China, with the varieties from Southern Shaoxing and Northern Daizhou being particularly renowned. The raw materials and production processes of Huangjiu from these two regions differ substantially, resulting in distinct nutritional, safety and flavor characteristics. The effects of intraportal administration of endogenous sugar acids such as 2DTA, 3DPA and 2B40 on afferent activity of the hepatic branch of the vagus nerve were investigated in the rat.
