Using periodontal plastic surgery techniques.

In the 1980s, mucogingival surgery evolved into periodontal plastic surgery with various techniques designed to produce root coverage in areas of marginal tissue recession, to augment deficient ridges, and to lengthen crowns in cases of excessive gingival display. Periodontal plastic surgery not only enables the dentist to reconstruct but also to regenerate lost tissues.

Glove perforation during plastic surgery.

Intraoperative perforation of surgical gloves is common. Nine hundred and forty surgical gloves were tested after 100 consecutive plastic surgical operations, each involving a surgeon, a variable number of assistants and a scrub nurse. In the first 52 operations, single gloves were used and 21.5% of the staff were found to have a perforated glove. In the second 48 operations, double gloves were used by all members of the surgical team and the number with perforations (of both inner and outer gloves) was reduced to 9%. Most perforations occurred on the dorsum of the hand and fingers and on the

[Plastic surgery in mongoloid children].

The aim of plastic surgery in children with Down-syndrome is the improvement of speech as well as improvement of cosmetic appearance. Altering the typical mongoloid physiognomy facilitates the integration of these children into the community. In our Department during the past 6 months plastic surgery was performed in 27 children for the correction of macroglossia, saddle nose deformity, epicanthic folds, receding chin, fatty neck and deformity of the ears. Macroglossia was present in every case, the extent of further surgery varies according to the clinical deformity. It is essential to discus

An overview of plastic surgery.

In addition to many technical refinements during the past decade, plastic surgery has made particular advances through the use of microsurgery, in the control of burn wound infection, by the use of implantable silicones, in the correction of craniofacial deformities and through the development of axial-pattern and other specialized flaps.

Exosomes in Facial Plastic Surgery.

Exosomes have emerged as a promising therapeutic frontier in facial plastic surgery. Preclinical studies have demonstrated their ability to modulate wound healing, skin rejuvenation, hair growth, and nerve regeneration. Early clinical evidence suggests potential benefits in enhancing recovery after laser resurfacing, treating acne scars, and promoting hair growth. Despite their potential, there are currently no exosome products that are FDA-approved for medical use, and they should be considered experimental until receiving regulatory approval and robust clinical validation. As research advanc

Office-Based Facial Plastic Surgery.

Office-based facial plastic surgery involves a wide array of procedures from esthetic surgeries such as facelifting and blepharoplasty to reconstructive procedures including scar revision and local tissue flaps. The cornerstone to a successful outcome is a thorough history and physical examination with an emphasis on assessment of a patient's ability to tolerate an office-based procedure. Room set-up, equipment, and personnel play an especially important role in these procedures. Anesthetic considerations as well as a heightened attention to safety are paramount in ensuring an excellent patien

Microsurgery Training in Plastic Surgery.

Advances in surgical instruments, magnification technology, perforator dissection techniques, and vascular imaging over the past decades have facilitated exponential growth in the field of microsurgery. With wide application potential including but not limited to limb salvage, breast reconstruction, lymphedema treatment, and sex affirmation surgery, microsurgery represents a critical skill set that powerfully augments the reconstructive armamentarium of plastic surgeons. Accordingly, microsurgical training is now a critical component of the plastic surgery residency education curriculum. Train
