Injection of metallic tin powder causes intense proliferation of plasma cells in draining lymph nodes of Lewis rats. Pretreatment orally with soluble tin salts prevents this response to subsequently injected metallic tin. Sorption behavior of tin (Sn) in Japanese agricultural soils was studied. Soil-soil solution distribution coefficient (K(d)) of Sn (K(d)-Sn) for 142 soil samples ranged between 128 and 1,590,000 L kg(-1) with the geometric mean of 12 400 L kg(-1). The K(d)-Sn values for Andosol tended to be higher than those of the other soil groups. Among the relationships between K(d)-Sn values and soil properties, a high correlation was observed for soil active-Al (Al-(hydr)oxide and Al-humus complex) amount and K(d)-Sn. The preparation and functionalization of ITO surfaces has been studied using primarily X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) and the reagents n-hexylamine and n-octyltrimethoxysilane (OTMS). Tin nitrides (Sn3N4) prepared by the reaction of Sn-halides with KNH2 in liquid ammonia and a subsequent vacuum annealing procedure were investigated with transmission mode XAFS experiments. While the near edge data suggest the presence of a univalent Sn-compound with a valency close to +4, the analysis of the extended X-ray absorption fine structure proves the presence of two different local Sn sites in this crystal structure: While Sn(1) is surrounded by 4 nitrogen in a distance of 2.06 A, each Sn(2) ion is coordinated with 6 nitrogen at about 2.17 A radial distance.

Simple tin derivatives, Cp*2SnCl2 (1) and Ph2SnCl2 (2), catalyze the hydrophosphination of alkene substrates with diphenylphosphine. Competitive dehydrocoupling to give Ph4P2 was observed, but this side reaction can be mitigated when the catalysis is conducted under an H2 atmosphere. The title compound, tripotassium sodium tritin octaselenide, K(3)NaSn(3)Se(8), has a molecular (zero-dimensional) structure containing trimeric [Sn(3)Se(8)](4-) units which consist of three edge-sharing SnSe(4) tetrahedra. The [Sn(3)Se(8)](4-) anions and the tetrahedrally coordinated Na(+) cations are arranged in an alternating fashion along the c axis to form SiS(2)-like chains, which are then separated by eight-coordinate K(+) cations. The Sn-Se bond distances are normal, being in the range 2.477 (1)-2.612 (1) A.
