Lack of tooth eruption following maxillary fracture: case report.

Aberrant tooth development following facial fractures is unusual. It is commonly reported that tooth buds involved in the line of a mandibular fracture will continue to develop normally and erupt sequentially. Few cases have been cited regarding developing teeth in the line of maxillary fractures. In the case reported, the normal growth and position of a maxillary third molar can be seen to be retarded at the position of a maxillary fracture, sustained by a child in the mixed dentition phase of dental development.

Complicated crown fracture of an unerupted permanent tooth--a case report.

Trauma to primary teeth may result in direct damage to underlying developing permanent teeth because of the close relationship that exists between the apices of the primary teeth and their permanent successors. Injuries to developing teeth have been classified into ten different categories, using a classification that is largely based on developmental alterations to the permanent teeth. However, this classification does not include other types of trauma that may occur to developing teeth, such as crown fractures. Although apparently rare, such injuries can occur by direct contact of the impact

Cyst-like lesion of a developing tooth induced by mandibular fracture.

A dentigerous cyst-like formation in the lower canine region caused by mandibular fracture in a 10-year-old boy is reported. His medical history revealed that he had been unconscious for about 2 weeks after traumatic head injuries sustained in a traffic accident, and a complicated mandibular fracture had been left untreated until his dentist diagnosed the lesion. Eleven months after trauma, a dentigerous cyst measuring 20 mm in diameter was found in the fracture area. The lesion was enucleated and the boy's postoperative recovery was uneventful. The mass completely enveloped the developing can

Developmental arrest of tooth bud after correction of mandibular fracture.

A case of multiple fractures of the mandible following a car accident in a five-year-old patient is reported. The fracture line passed distal to the first molar tooth bud. The fracture was treated by wire osteosynthesis and skeletal fixation. During the ensuing 18 months, a gradual arrest of the development of the first molar tooth bud was radiologically observed. The eruption process had not been disturbed, and the tooth erupted at the age of 6 1/2 years. Since the distal root had completely failed to develop and the mesial roots showed a diminished size, the tooth was extracted. Histopatholo

Two horizontal root fractures of a permanent central incisor tooth: A case report.

Traditionally, teeth with horizontal root fractures resulting in pulp infections have been managed with conventional root canal therapy; however, this technique is associated with a limited success rate. This study presents an unusual case of multiple horizontal root fractures of the maxillary central incisor caused by a traumatic injury. The preservation of vital dental pulp is advantageous for healing root fractures. Therefore, we performed a pulpotomy to maintain vitality of the root pulp. The tooth exhibited no clinical symptoms and regained its normal color. In cases of traumatic root fra

Fragility fractures and delayed wound healing after tooth extraction in Japanese older adults.

INTRODUCTION: Fragility fractures can cause delayed wound healing after tooth extraction, which contributes to an increased risk of osteomyelitis of the jaw. We evaluated whether a history of fragility fracture was associated with increased risk of delayed wound healing after tooth extraction in older adults in Japan. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Of 5352 people aged 50-89 years in the 2014 basic resident registry of the town of Obuse, the present study included 376 subjects (190 men and 186 women) who completed a structured questionnaire and measurement of the bone mineral densities (BMDs) of the b

Effect of temperature on rehydration and fracture resistance of reattached tooth fragments after crown fracture: An in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: Uncomplicated crown fractures of maxillary anterior teeth are common dental injuries, and the bonding of fractured fragments is recommended for management. Rehydration of fragments improves bonding and fracture resistance. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the fracture resistance of the reattached tooth fragment of the incisor crown after rehydration using either a steamer or a humidifier. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Bovine teeth were used as a model. Fractured fragments were divided into three groups: Group I (no rehydration), Group II (rehydration by humidifier), and Gr

Prosthetic reconstruction of a fractured canine tooth in a dog using post and core.

A 6-year-old spayed female poodle dog weighing 5 kg was presented with a fractured right upper canine tooth (#104). Dental examination using an intraoral camera and radiography confirmed a tooth fracture with an exposed pulp, resulting in the loss of ~2/3 of the crown. Tooth #104 was diagnosed with a complicated crown fracture. Consequently, root canal therapy was undertaken, involving root canal preparation with hand files and subsequent canal filling with appropriate filling materials. After the root canal therapy was completed, part of the filling material was removed to facilitate post pla

Tooth fragment reattachment following crown root fracture: a case report.

A 32-year-old man presented with a complicated crown-root fracture of a maxillary lateral incisor. The fracture extended subgingivally, and apical to the alveolar bone crest, invading the biologic width. Flap surgery to expose the fractured root face was performed and the coronal tooth fragment reattached with a dual-cure resin adhesive. Examination six months after treatment revealed periodontal health, good aesthetics and normal function.

Surgical extrusion of a cervically root-fractured tooth after apexification treatment.

A case is reported in which an incisor fractured below the alveolar crest 6 months after completion of apexification treatment was surgically extruded for prosthetic coronal restoration. After the surgical procedure, a dowel post was placed in the root canal, a core was built using glass-ionomer cement, and a porcelain veneer crown restoration was completed. The 24-month follow-up examination after surgical, endodontic, and prosthetic treatments showed that the tooth was clinically and radiographically healthy and functioned well.

From Conventional Reattachment to Intentional Replantation: A Conservative Approach to Complicated Anterior Tooth Fractures.

Traumatic fractures of anterior teeth may result in substantial loss of coronal tooth structure and present complex restorative and endodontic challenges. Reattachment of the original tooth fragment is a conservative treatment option when the fragment is available, intact, and adequately adapted to the remaining tooth structure. This case series describes three anterior tooth fractures managed using tooth-fragment reattachment with progressively more complex treatment approaches. Case 1 involved a horizontal fracture of the gingival third of a maxillary central incisor and was treated with roo…

Minimal Detectable Width of Tooth Fractures Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Method to Measure.

INTRODUCTION: Vertical root fracture (VRF) in root canal-treated (RCT) teeth is a common cause of pain, bone resorption, and tooth loss. VRF is also difficult to diagnose and measure. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has the potential to identify VRF due to beneficial partial volume averaging, without using ionizing radiation. This investigation aimed to describe the narrowest VRFs detectable based on MRI, using micro-computed tomography (microCT) as the reference standard and proposes a method using profile integrals to measure the widths of small VRFs. METHODS: VRFs were induced in 62 RCT t
