Successful management of myofascial trigger point (MTrP) pain depends on the practitioner finding all of the MTrPs from which the pain is emanating, and then deactivating them by one of several currently used methods. These include deeply applied procedures, such as an injection of a local anaesthetic into MTrPs and deep dry needling (DDN), and superficially applied ones, including an injection of saline into the skin and superficial dry needling (SDN) at MTrP sites. Reasons are given for believing that DDN should be employed in cases where there is severe muscle spasm due to an underlying rad

BACKGROUND: Larsen syndrome is an extremely rare congenital disorder characterized by craniofacial anomalies and multiple skeletal deformities such as short stature, kyphoscoliosis of the spine, cervical spine instability, clubfeet, and joint dislocations especially of the knee and hip joints. Musculoskeletal pain in a case of Larsen syndrome signals red flags as these patients have various congenital anomalies. However, myofascial trigger points could be a cause of chronic musculoskeletal pain in these patients. Myofascial trigger points are easy to diagnose and treat.

Introduction Therapeutic dry needling (DN) is effective in reducing the discomfort of chronic somatosensory tinnitus in patients with myofascial trigger points (MTP)s. Objective To evaluate the efficacy of DN in chronic somatosensory tinnitus discomfort in patients with MTP. Methods Placebo-controlled paired trial that included 16 patients with a diagnosis of somatosensory chronic tinnitus and with the presence of at least one active or latent MTP. Treatment was performed in two phases: (1) four sessions (one session per week for four consecutive weeks) of placebo DN and (2) four sessions o

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the ERK signaling pathway was involved in ameliorating chronic myofascial hyperalgesia from contused gastrocnemius muscle in rats. We established an animal model associated with myofascial pain syndrome and described the mechanism of muscle pain in an animal model. Changes in the mechanical pain threshold were observed 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 12, 18, and 24 h after ERK inhibitor injection around myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) of the gastrocnemius muscle in rats. Morphological changes in gastrocnemius muscle cells were observed by hematoxyl

BACKGROUND: Patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) often complain of prominent pain in shoulder and arm, also there are patients that have pain in their shoulder and arm which is due to myofascial trigger point (MTP) located in their upper trapezius muscle. Despite the frequency of this observation, few studies have previously sought to establish possible relationship between the CTS and MTP in shoulder area.
METHODS: Samples were 160 patients (221 hands) consist of 130 females and 30 males, with suspected diagnosis of CTS, from March 2008 to October 2008. In this study after performing e

BACKGROUND: Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a widespread musculoskeletal disorder characterized by myofascial trigger points. Needling trigger points is one of the most common therapeutic interventions to treat MPS. However, it is unclear whether needling trigger points is superior to other non-pharmacological interventions.
METHODS: Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) which compared the effectiveness of needling trigger points and other non-pharmacological therapies for treating MPS, were searched in the databases of PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, CNKI, WanFang, VPCS, and

BACKGROUND: Ultrasonographic evaluation of trigger points detected by physical examination in patients with myofascial pain syndrome is being used more frequently in clinical care. However, the sonographic appearance of trigger points, in association with pain and disability, has not been adequately described.
OBJECTIVE: To reveal the presence of trigger points with ultrasonography in those with myofascial pain syndrome and to determine if ultrasound images can help discriminate between demographic and disease characteristics.
METHODS: Fifty-two participants with chronic neck pain (NP) were

BACKGROUND: Extreme heat is a public health challenge. The scarcity of directly comparable studies on the association of heat with morbidity and mortality and the inconsistent identification of threshold temperatures for severe impacts hampers the development of comprehensive strategies aimed at reducing adverse heat-health events.
OBJECTIVES: This quantitative study was designed to link temperature with mortality and morbidity events in Maricopa County, Arizona, USA, with a focus on the summer season.
METHODS: Using Poisson regression models that controlled for temporal confounders, we asse

Neurolysis with alcohol has been rarely used in gynecology. We describe a case of deep dyspareunia caused by trigger points in the uterosacral stumps that was successfully treated using alcohol neurolysis. We highlight the risk of voiding dysfunction after uterosacral neurolysis and recommend a 2-step procedure with unilateral injection of alcohol, 1 side at a time at an interval of 2 to 3 months.

We propose that trigger-point dry needle (TrP-DN) therapy is an effective low-risk treatment for pain associated with myofascial trigger points (MTrP), and should be incorporated into the Special Operations Forces (SOF) Medic's scope of practice. Furthermore, TrP-DN therapy can be used as a treatment adjunct on the SOF continuum of care, providing analgesia and increased tolerance for rehabilitative therapy, thereby facilitating improved patient outcomes and faster return to operational readiness. The incidence of musculoskeletal injuries in the SOF community is discussed, as are available tre
