This report analyses the clinicopathologic features of three metastatic extragenital neoplasms to the cervix. These examples of metastatic extragenital malignancies to the cervix are cutaneous malignant melanoma, colorectal carcinoma, and breast carcinoma. The diagnosis of these metastatic malignancies was suspected on a historical basis. The value of Pap smears is limited on the other hand, since for a correct diagnosis in all our cases, this examination required corroboration by histological and immunohistochemical analysis. In all these examples of extragenital metastatic neoplasms, as in o

Parity has been reported as a risk factor for cervical cancer. However, no study has investigated the risk of neoplasms of the uterine cervix according to the delivery type. We carried out a retrospective cohort study using nationwide data from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Database to investigate whether cesarean delivery might be associated with less development of neoplasms of the uterine cervix than a vaginal delivery in women of childbearing age. Women aged 20-44 years, who had undergone vaginal or cesarean deliveries in 2009 were included as subjects. Two individual d

Leiomyomas are classified as benign mesenchymal neoplasms and consist of smooth muscle cells with variable amounts of fibrous stroma. The tumors occur most frequently in the uterus, affecting 20%-30% of women of reproductive age, but vaginal leiomyomas are rare with only around 300 cases reported since the first case was described in 1733. These tumors are thought to arise from Müllerian smooth muscle cells in the subepithelium of the vagina. Here, we present a case of vaginal leiomyoma who presented as left vaginal wall mass.

The paper presents the results of examining 49 patients with genital papillomas, vulvar and vaginal leukoplakia, dysplasia, and cancer. The findings may suggest that human papillomavirus plays an important role in the development of vulvar and vaginal lesions and reconsider the importance of high- and low-risk oncogenic genotypes in the development of benign neoplasms, precancerous conditions, and malignant tumors of the vulva and vagina.

Primary vaginal adenocarcinomas are one of the rarest malignant neoplasms, which develop in the female genital tract. Because of the extremely low incidence, their clinical and pathologic characteristics are still obscure. Recently, we experienced a case of vaginal adenocarcinoma that appeared 7 yr after hysterectomy because of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. The patient, a 65-yr-old obese woman, was diagnosed as having adenocarcinoma in the vaginal stump and was treated by simple tumor excision and radiation. Immunohistochemical and molecular biologic examinations indicated a potential as

The aim of this study is to assess the projected incidence and prognostic indicators of gynecologic malignancies in the pediatric population … s accounted for the majority of vaginal, cervical, uterine and vulvar malignancies. The majority of vaginal neoplasms were observed in girls between 0-4 years, and the 10-year OS rate was 86.1%. Overall, gynecologic malignancies accounted for 4.2% of all malignancies in girls aged 0-18 years and the histologic subtypes and prognosis differed significantly from pati …

This case report is on cervical spindle cell neoplasm and complications of its excision. A 34-year-old multiparous woman presented with a one-year history of mild to moderate non-radiating lower abdominal pain and a sensation of a mass in the vagina when urinating. These symptoms were associated with a recurrent foul-smelling yellow vaginal discharge which was unresponsive to antibiotic therapy prescribed at a primary healthcare clinic. Vaginal examination at a gynaecological clinic revealed a firm circular cervical mass. Excision biopsy of the mass (attached between the 1 and 3 o'clock positi

INTRODUCTION: Renal cell carcinoma is the third most common urogenital cancer. In some patients, it can metastasize to distant organs. Metastasis to the vagina is extremely rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 54-year-old female with unremarkable history presented to the clinic with a chief complaint of vaginal bleeding. Further examination identified a pedunculated mass on the vaginal wall. Histologic examination revealed a metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma. Radiological studies then revealed a left renal mass and bilateral adrenal masses. The patient underwent a nephrectomy, adrenalectomy, a

Vaginal cancer is a rare malignancy accounting for 1-2% of all pelvic neoplasms. Dissemination usually occurs through local invasion and rarely metastasises to distal locations. Metastasis of vaginal cancer to the breast is extremely infrequent and unique. A 66-year-old Asian woman presented with vaginal bleeding and was found to have a vaginal mass and a left breast mass. Pathological assessment of the biopsies revealed identical squamous cell characteristics of both masses. We describe a very rare and novel case of a distally located vaginal carcinoma with metastasis to the breast Federation

Background and Objectives: Neoplasms of the vagina are rare and account for 1-2% of all tumors of the female reproductive system. Primary neoplasms of the vagina are most often carcinomas originating from squamous or glandular epithelium. Of the primary glandular tumors, clear cell, endometrioid, and serous adenocarcinomas are the most common types, while mucinous and mesonephric types are very rare. Mucinous adenocarcinoma is histologically subclassified into endocervical and intestinal types. We add to the existing literature another case of an extremely rare gynecological neoplasm-primary v

Pancreatic mucinous cystic neoplasms are uncommon and their occurrence in pregnancy is extremely rare. The authors report the unique case of a newborn weighing 3,620 g, delivered vaginally with no complications by a patient with a large 'silent' pancreatic mucinous cystic neoplasms, and analyze the very few other reports. With no available protocol, this case highlights an interesting dilemma on the management of pregnancy and delivery as well on the timing of pancreatic surgery. Despite its limitations, MRI remains the most accurate investigation either for differentiating the mucinous from n

Vaginal carcinosarcomas (VCSs) are rare and clinically aggressive neoplasms. Primary vaginal malignancies are among the rarest malignant tumors, so clear management guidelines and optimal therapy, especially in the presence of significant pelvic organ prolapse, has not been determined. Here, we present a case of primary VCS closely associated with differentiated squamous intraepithelial neoplasia (DSIN), from which it appeared to have arisen in a postmenopausal patient with complete uterine prolapse. The unusual presentation of our case with DSIN in the adjacent vaginal epithelium with possibl

During a two year period 901 cases were admitted and diagnosed as benign gynaecological neoplasms. Five hundred and thirty three of these (59.1 pc) were uterine fibroleiomyomata. Of these, 103 had surgery and 13 (12.6 pc) had pedunculated fibroleiomyomata presenting as a vaginal mass. Eight of the 13 cases were treated by vaginal myomectomy. Total abdominal hysterectomy was carried out in two cases because of failed vaginal myomectomy. Two others had total abdominal hysterectomy for dysfunctional uterine bleeding and for satisfied parity. One case absconded. Vaginal myomectomy should be the fi

Gestational trophoblastic neoplasms are a group of fetal trophoblastic tumors including choriocarcinomas, epithelioid trophoblastic tumors (ETTs), and placental site trophoblastic tumors (PSTTs). Mixed gestational trophoblastic neoplasms are extremely rare. The existence of mixed gestational trophoblastic neoplasms that were composed of choriocarcinoma and/or PSTT and/or ETT was also reported. Herein, we present a case of uterine mixed gestational trophoblastic neoplasm which is ETT admixed with PSTT, and reviewed 9 cases of mixed gestational trophoblastic neoplasms reported in English literat

Vaginal cancer is a rare neoplasm and in about 65% to 90% of cases it is a metastatic one. It is diagnosed in women aged from 60 to 70 years, but it can also appear in younger patients. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most frequently found histopathological type. Risk factors for the development of vaginal cancer are thought to be similar to those of cervical cancer. We present a case of a 52-year old woman with vaginal cancer treated with brachytherapy. Due to neoplasm recurrence, additional examinations were performed in the course of one year. The patient was qualified for total pelvic exent

Vaginal mucosa represents a rare site for primary melanoma. These neoplasms more commonly occur in the postmenopausal period, usually presenting with vaginal discharge, bleeding, or palpable mass. We report a case of an 89-year-old woman presenting with vaginal bleeding and a non-pigmented lesion in the lower third of the vagina at the gynaecological examination. A PAP smear and tissue incisional biopsy were concurrently performed. The cytological sample showed a subpopulation of non-cohesive, atypical epithelioid cells suggestive for malignancy. The histological examination showed the same mo

Vaginal bleeding in childhood is not a common complaint. Serious medical or sociological problems can underly this irregular symptom in young girls. Therefore it requires careful medical investigation followed by appropriate sociologic and psychologic support. The variable etiologies of vulvovaginitis are the most common causes of vaginal bleeding during the prepubertal period. External blood loss can be related to trauma or urologic factors. It can be the presenting sign of relatively rare benign and malignant neoplasms of the genital tract. Precocious menstruation in itself or as a part of p

BACKGROUND: Polypoid endometriosis (PEM) is a rare type of endometriosis, frequently mimicking a malignant tumor. We report on a patient with PEM over a 10-year span who had symptoms at age 16.
CASE: A 20-year-old woman presented with massive vaginal hemorrhage and spontaneous abortion, having symptoms of dysmenorrhea, anal distending pain, and vaginal bleeding since adolescence. Imaging showed multiple polypoid neoplasms of the rectum and vagina connecting to the huge mass in a cul de sac. After exploration and excision, the pathology revealed PEM.
