Experiment and clinical evidence of hypothalamic influence on autonomic function has accumulated since the early part of this century. Localization of hypothalamic lesions is difficult, and damage must be bilateral to produce symptoms. Caloric balance may be altered, with ventromedial lesions causing hyperphagia, and lateral hypothalamic lesions producing a syndrome of aphagia and weight loss in experimental animals. Gastric ulcerations are associated with brainstem lesions, including the diencephalon. Anterior hypothalamic lesions cause hyperthermia, while posterior lesions result in hypother

Fruit and vegetable allergies are the most prevalent food allergies in adolescents and adults. The identification of the allergens involved and the elucidation of their intrinsic properties and cross-reactivity patterns has helped in the understanding of the mechanisms of sensitisation and how the allergen profiles determine the different phenotypes. The most frequent yet contrasting fruit and vegetable allergies are pollen-food syndrome (PFS) and lipid transfer protein (LTP) syndrome. In PFS, fruit and vegetable allergies result from a primary sensitisation to labile pollen allergens, such as

In 1928, P. Masson described in hemorrhoids a peculiar lesions which he called "intravascular vegetating hemangioendothelioma". The possibility of cutaneous location of this lesion was demonstrated only in 1967. Rare if isolated, the intravascular vegetating hemangioendothelioma is often associated with other vascular lesions such as polyps, hemorrhoids, etc. Always benign, this tumor may be misdiagnosed as an angiosarcoma by inexperienced pathologists. In this article, three additional cases are described, the histological differences with an angiosarcoma are stressed and the pathogenesis of
