[A Danish pathography from the 17th century (Johan Valentin Wille) (author's transl)].

A monograph written by the physician Johan Valentin Wille in 1675 is discussed and commented. The monograph was published in Th. Bartholin Acta medica, the first medical journal in Denmark, and was in 1934 translated from Latin into Danish by the physician Eiler Høeg. It givees a detailed description of organ changes and internal parasites found in cattle and hare autopsied on Sealand 1674-75. Vermiform bodies found in the liver of cattle are undoubtedly identical with Fasciola hepatica. The tumorous or cystic formations in the bovine lung and liver correspond certainly with the larval stages

To What Extent Are Therapists Willing to Treat Suicide-Loss Survivors With Suicide Risk?

Introduction: Managing individuals at suicide risk poses significant challenges for mental health professionals (MHPs), particularly when these clients are also coping with the sudden loss of a loved one. Existing research suggests that stigma and perceived lack of competence often affect MHPs' willingness to treat such cases. However, the extent to which symptom severity and the cause of loss (suicide vs. accident) influence MPHs' decisions remains unclear. In this study, we examined these factors and whether suicide prevention training moderates MHPs' willingness to treat and their perceived

Stem cells and stroke: are we further away than anyone is willing to admit?

Harnessing the potential of stem cells or other types of cell therapies to regenerate brain tissue lost from a stroke is a long way off, and a far more complicated process than is understood. There are critical safety issues regarding stem cells in stroke and many clinical trials have only just begun. We are at least 5-10 years away from knowing if cell therapies will improve clinical outcome in stroke patients. The use of stem cells in stroke therapy remains investigational only.

Under what conditions would people be willing to make a living organ donation?

The aim was to examine the factors involved in people's willingness to make a living organ donation. A convenience sample of 200 people in southern France rated willingness to be a living donor in 48 scenarios consisting of all combinations of five factors: recipient's identity (close family member and city resident); donor's surgical risk (little and some); donor's possible long-term health consequences (none, some lessening over time, and durable); transplant success ("generally durably successful" and "durably successful one time out of two"); and likelihood of other donors (subject is one

Use of perflubron as a new temporary vitreous substitute and manipulation agent for vitreoretinal surgery. Wills Eye Hospital Perflubron Study Group.

PURPOSE: The authors determine the intraocular tolerance of a new widely used liquid perfluorocarbon, perfluoroctylbromide (perflubron). METHODS: Pars plana vitrectomy was performed on 54 eyes of 54 patients with vitreoretinal disorders at three centers. Diagnoses included giant retinal tears, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, and dislocated intraocular and crystalline lenses. At the conclusion of the vitrectomy, perflubron was removed. RESULTS: Perflubron was efficacious for vitreoretinal manipulation. Of the 45 eyes with retinal detachment, 23 (51.1%) of the retinas were reattached after a

Tips of the trade #10. Timesaving instruments for removing the distal interlock of a Brooker-Wills femoral intramedullary rod.

Removing the distal fixation wings (interlock) of a Brooker-Wills femoral intramedullary rod can be a time-consuming and difficult procedure. If the granulation tissue in the proximal aspect of the intramedullary rod is hypertrophic and scarred in, the screw-in extractor device used for removal of the distal fixation wings is sometimes difficult to engage. We always have two instruments available in the operating room to aid in the removal of the distal fixation wings: a large- or medium-sized arthroscopic alligator clamp grabber and head-lamp or flashlight. We believe that these significantly…

Willing to Donate? A Quantitative and Thematic Analysis of Attitudes to Deceased Organ Donation in Different Circumstances.

INTRODUCTION: The UK public's willingness to donate, knowledge of, and concerns about different organ donation scenarios are not known. METHODS: A validated questionnaire was developed based on a literature review of the ethical issues associated with uncontrolled Donation after Circulatory Death (uDCD). Participants read three scenarios (Donation after Brain Death [DBD], controlled, and uncontrolled Donation after Circulatory Death [cDCD and uDCD]) relating to being asked about organ donation (with clear explanations of what was involved) in a randomised order. Each vignette was followed by

Relaxation, Guided Imagery, Willful Dissociation, and Hypnosis: Practical Strategies for Primary Care Providers.

The Psychiatric Consultation Service at Massachusetts General Hospital sees medical and surgical inpatients with comorbid psychiatric symptoms and conditions. During their twice-weekly rounds, Dr Stern and other members of the Consultation Service discuss diagnosis and management of hospitalized patients with complex medical or surgical problems who also demonstrate psychiatric symptoms or conditions. These discussions have given rise to rounds reports that will prove useful for clinicians practicing at the interface of medicine and psychiatry. Prim Care Companion CNS Disord 2026;28(5):26f0422

Knowledge and beliefs of Greek parents towards HPV infection and vaccination - are they willing to vaccinate their sons?

OBJECTIVES: Human papillomavirus (HPV) stands as one of the prevalent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and serves as the primary factor behind nearly all instances of cervical cancer, along with various other non-cancerous conditions like genital warts. Our objective was to explore the knowledge and beliefs of Greek parents regarding HPV infection and the vaccination of boys against HPV. METHODS: A cross-sectional study took place at a university hospital located in the Peloponnese region of Greece, from January to June 2021. The study employed convenience sampling as its methodology, a

A Capable Surgeon and a Willing Electrologist: Challenges to the Expansion of Transgender Surgical Care in the United States.

Since 2014, public and private insurance coverage for transgender Americans' surgical care has increased exponentially. Training clinicians and equipping institutions to meet the surge in demand has not been as rapid. Through ethnographic research at a surgical workshop focused on trans- genital reconstruction and in a U.S. hospital working to grow its transgender health program, this article shows that effects of the decades-long insurance exclusion of trans- surgery are not easily remedied through the recent event of its inclusion because patient access is not the only thing that has been re

[Willing to undergo hepatitis C treatment in a sample of injection drug users in Toronto, Canada].

BACKGROUND: The majority of prevalent and incident hepatitis C (HCV) infections in Canada are related to injection drug use (IDU), thus positioning injection drug users (IDUs) as a critical population to be targeted for HCV treatment. Little research has been undertaken in order to discover the willingness of IDUs to receive HCV treatment, however. METHODS: The study sample was part of the Opican (illicit OPIoid use in CANada) cohort study of illicit opioid and other drug users in five Canadian cities. RESULTS: Data were collected from a sub-sample of 50 HCV-positive IDUs in Toronto. Four fi

Commentary: mal-intentioned illiteracy, willful ignorance, and fetal protection laws: is there a lexicologist in the house?

Author argues that fetal protection laws result from the antiabortion agenda, not from concern for child health. Such laws derive from rhetorical dissembling, not careful crafting of public health policy.

Willing, but unequally: Indigenous identity influences participation in Alzheimer's disease biomarker research in Chile.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to compare the willingness to use Alzheimer's disease (AD) predictive-diagnostic procedures between Mapuche (Indigenous) and non-Indigenous older adults in Chile. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study including Mapuche (n = 167) and non-Indigenous (n = 248) older adults. Willingness to undergo five predictive-diagnostic procedures (AD risk test, neuropsychological assessment, blood test, brain imaging, and cerebrospinal fluid analysis) was evaluated. Logistic regression models were used to identify factors associated with willingness. RESULTS: Overall w

'I'm willing to walk into violence': The impact of personal trauma on staff compassion in secure services.

OBJECTIVES: Current evidence on the impact of personal trauma on health care professionals is mixed. Some studies suggest a personal history of trauma can be a risk factor for secondary traumatisation. Other research suggests that personal experiences of trauma can help professionals to better recognise their patients' trauma symptoms. Staff working in forensic mental health services face challenges, such as exposure to patient self-harm and suicide. This study aimed to understand the impact of personal trauma on staff working in forensic mental health services and how this impacts their abili

Are you willing to cooperate? The role of childhood adversities, family unpredictability and physiological self-regulation.

Cooperation is a universal phenomenon involving individuals working together to achieve a shared goal. Little attention has been given to how harsh environments in terms of childhood adversities and family unpredictability might be linked to individual's engagement in cooperative behaviors and on how the persons' physiological ability to adapt to the environment might influence this association. To fill this gap, we conducted two studies. The first showed in 1296 participants (44.44 % male, Mage = 29.95, SD = 11.50) that adversities favor cooperation as individuals may strengthen bonds to alle
