Recombinant interleukin-2 (rIL-2) with flavone acetic acid (FAA) in advanced malignant melanoma: a phase II study.

Recombinant interleukin 2 (rIL-2) and flavone acetic acid (FAA) were used to treat 34 patients with progressing metastatic melanoma. Five patients had solely non-visceral disease and the median number of organ sites involved was two. Five doses of rIL-2 were given, the first dose intrasplenically via a femoral artery catheter with a further dose 4 h later i.v. and the other doses i.v. on alternate days. A rapid sensitive spectrophotometric assay for the measurement of methylmalonic and propionic acids in urine is described. The assay is based upon the quantitation of propionic acid using acetyl coenzyme A synthetase isolated from baker's yeast. Immunological phenotype related to acid alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase and acid phosphatase in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

In 83 children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) the immunological phenotype of the lymphoblasts was determined using E rosetting, monoclonal anti-T cell sera, surface immunoglobulin staining and common ALL antiserum. The data were compared with acid alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE) and acid phosphatase (AP) cytochemical data. The vast majority of T-ALL cells proved to be ANAE-negative (30/31) and AP-positive (29/31). Null-ALL was always AP-negative (12/12), the ANAE reaction was sometimes positive (4/12). In common ALL, findings ranged from negative to positive for both enzymes.

Effects of acetic acid, ethanol, and SO(2) on the removal of volatile acidity from acidic wines by two Saccharomyces cerevisiae commercial strains.

Herein, we report the influence of different combinations of initial concentration of acetic acid and ethanol on the removal of acetic acid from acidic wines by two commercial Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains S26 and S29. Both strains reduced the volatile acidity of an acidic wine (1.0 gl(-1) acetic acid and 11% (v/v) ethanol) by 78% and 48%, respectively.
