BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Outcome-based education (OBE) is increasingly used to develop advanced nursing competencies, yet how these competencies transfer into complex clinical practice-particularly in oncology cardiopulmonary rehabilitation (CP-Rehab)-remains poorly understood. This study explored nurses' lived experiences of competency transfer and professional role transition within an OBE-structured oncology CP-Rehab training program.
DESIGN AND METHODS: This COREQ-guided descriptive phenomenological study purposively sampled 14 registered-nurse trainees who completed the inaugural OBE sp

BACKGROUND: With the increased restrictions on resident work hours, hospitals increasingly are relying on advance practice nurses and physician assistants to help meet the patient care demand. We have created a workflow model wherein unit-based nurse practitioners (UBNPs) provide the minute-to-minute care for patients with trauma in one specific unit in our hospital, with supervision by the attending surgeons. Patients with trauma may also be admitted to other units, where the care model is a traditional resident-run (RR) service, again with supervision by the attending staff. Our aim was to d

BACKGROUND: The incidence of head and neck cancer (HNC) is rising globally, with patients undergoing extensive surgical resection for advanced disease frequently requiring prophylactic tracheostomy to secure the airway in the early postoperative period. Specialised HNC nurses undertake extended scope tracheostomy procedures, including tube changes and decannulations, yet practice varies widely between institutions and no standardised training framework exists.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To benchmark the roles and responsibilities of specialised HNC nurses in tracheostomy management across Australia

AIM: The aim of this paper was to provide a narrative account of the communication skills used in an effective outreach consultation utilizing Neighbour's consultative model. Other consultation models were considered; however, because of their overly comprehensive approach or emphasis on behaviour modification, these were deemed inappropriate.
BACKGROUND: The nursing profession has endured significant changes of late and as a result is developing more autonomous roles in both the community and the acute health care settings. In the past, the term consultancy was used within the medical contex

This review examines recent advancements in interventional treatments and nursing care for lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT), highlighting significant innovations and their clinical applications. It discusses the transition to novel anticoagulants such as Direct Oral Anticoagulants, which offer a safer profile and simplified management compared to traditional therapies. Mechanical interventions, including balloon angioplasty and venous stenting, are detailed for their roles in improving immediate and long-term vascular function in acute DVT cases. Furthermore, the use of image-guided

Stress and burnout are significant concerns in nursing academia, as students balance clinical and academic demands, faculty manage teaching and research responsibilities, and staff navigate heavy workloads. Traditional wellness initiatives often address these groups separately, overlooking the value of shared engagement across the life course. This case study examined the development, implementation, and outcomes of an evidence-based wellness program within a College of Nursing. The life course framework reflected the continuum of human development, spanning students entering nursing directly

AIM: To report a concept analysis of oral hygiene care.
BACKGROUND: Oral hygiene care, as it is provided to older patients in hospital and long-term care settings by nurses and their delegates, has the potential to contribute to the oral health of patients while preventing aspiration pneumonia as well as periodontitis, which itself has been associated with several systemic diseases. However, the state of oral cleanliness in such patients tends to be poor and despite the existence of guidelines, nursing care practices may be inadequate and not reflective of recent advances in knowledge.

INTRODUCTION: Advance directives (AD) are rarely used although they have been enshrined in law since 2005. Health establishments have a duty to inform patients regarding AD. However, studies have shown little awareness of this law in the healthcare environment. Our study analyzes the perception of AD by oncohematology caregivers.
METHODS: This is an observational, descriptive and prospective study conducted with a 12-item questionnaire distributed to oncohematology nurses and nursing assistants. Statistical analyses were carried out using a significance threshold of 0.05 and using the Chi2, F

An advanced practice nurse (APN) often encounters patients with alterations in neurologic functioning, regardless of the practice setting. In many situations, the APN will be asked to perform the initial evaluation and determine if additional testing and consultation are indicated. For the APN who does not routinely encounter these patients, the experience may be challenging. This article presents an organized approach to the examination of patients with alterations in mentation and level of consciousness and considerations for differential diagnosis.
