DRESSMAN designates a novel dummy for climate measurements that allows predicting the human thermal comfort experienced inside rooms (buildings, vehicles, aircraft, railway compartments etc.) on the basis of indoor climate measurements. Measurements can be listed in tabular form and can also be represented by way of color gradations in a virtual 3D human model. Optionally, visualization may be rendered during or after measurement. Due to its very quick response, DRESSMAN is particularly suited for nonstationary processes.

In August 1988 an aircraft of the Italian aerobatic display team fell into the spectator enclosure at the Ramstein Airshow, causing over 500 casualties. The survivors were triaged, treated and evacuated from Ramstein within 96 minutes. The speed and efficiency of this evacuation was a result of prior planning, thorough training, medical reinforcement, co-operation with other agencies and the availability of an abundance of vehicles for both air and road evacuation. Not suprisingly, though, problems did occur, especially with communications, casualty identification and documentation.

With the aid of a modified procedure of reading instrumental indications of an aircraft the professional performance of pilots was studied during simulated motion sickness. We present the first case of late spontaneous dislocation of a high flexion polyethylene insert after Genesis II total knee arthroplasty. Dislocation of the fixed insert occurred at 14 months post surgery while walking down a steep aircraft staircase. The total knee arthroplasty had been uneventful till that moment. The clinical presentation, possible causes and management are discussed. A surgical error, failure to remove a posterior femoral osteophyte, seems the most probable cause for the late insert dislocation in our case.

Effort thrombosis of the axillary and subclavian veins is an uncommon cause of upper extremity swelling. Prompt recognition and treatment of this disorder is important in order to minimize the complications of pulmonary embolism and postphlebitic syndrome that can occur with this condition. This can be very challenging while underway or in the field. A sailor who developed effort vein thrombosis while underway on board the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln is presented to review the presentation and management of this disorder, particularly as it applies to active duty military personnel.
