Primary leiomyosarcoma (LMS) of the small intestine is an uncommon and aggressive malignant tumor. We report the case of a 61-year-old male who presented with postprandial abdominal pain, recurrent vomiting, transfusion-dependent anemia, and significant weight loss. A 60-year-old woman with neurofibromatosis type 1 presented to our hospital with melena. She reported a 1-year history of treatment with nilotinib hydrochloride hydrate for chronic myelogenous leukemia. Contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography revealed multiple intestinal tumors that were subsequently diagnosed as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) using single-balloon enteroscopy. Although the tumors showed no significant change over 1 year, partial jejunal resection was performed to confirm the diagnosis. Immunohistochemically, the tumors were GIST.

Peritoneal lipomatosis is a rare disease in childhood with only two cases previously described in children. We report a further case of a 12-year-old boy diagnosed with peritoneal lipomatosis. His main symptoms were abdominal pain, alternating bowel habit, abdominal distension, and melaena. His diagnostic work up included an abdominal MRI, wireless capsule endoscopy and single-balloon enteroscopy. Peritoneal lipomatosis although rare can be diagnosed in childhood. It is a benign clinical entity with variable manifestations.

The case of a postmenopausal woman with a congenital aortic stenosis is presented. She presented with severe iron deficiency anemia. After negative extensive gastrointestinal analysis, she was treated with octreotide for six months. After cessation of octreotide, anemia rapidly recurred. A second capsule endoscopy and a double balloon enteroscopy were performed, and an intestinal vascular malformation was found. After surgical segment resection, the patient had stable, normal levels of hemoglobin and no complaints after 14 months of follow-up.

The development of bacterial endocarditis as a result of endoscopic interventions within the gastrointestinal tract is exceedingly rare. Antibiotic prophylaxis for endoscopic procedures is generally not warranted, except for certain high-risk patients. Double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) is a common endoscopic procedure for evaluation of the small bowel. Bacterial endocarditis secondary to DBE has not been previously described. We describe the first case of enterococcal endocarditis attributed to DBE in a patient with a history of stage 1 primary biliary cholangitis.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The implementation rates of pediatric gastrointestinal endoscopy are increasing with advancements in the devices used and pediatricians' skills. As part of the Japan Pediatric Endoscopy Study Group, we aimed to investigate the rates of pediatric gastrointestinal endoscopy use and the associated adverse events through a nationwide survey.
METHODS: A questionnaire was sent to 630 institutions in Japan. The numbers of pediatric gastrointestinal endoscopy cases and adverse events occurring during endoscopy, from April 2011 to March 2016, were investigated.

We describe herein a 37-year-old woman with a 2-week history of melena who was eventually diagnosed with ileal haemolymphangioma, a rare benign tumour. Local mucosal congestion and swelling were found through single-balloon enteroscopy, which showed an irregular protuberance approximately 10 cm long, located 3.2 m from the Treitz ligament. We performed a laparoscopic-assisted partial resection of the small intestine combined with intestinal adhesiolysis. According to postoperative pathology, the final diagnosis was ileal haemolymphangioma with haemorrhage.
