Recurrence of Classic Scabies in a Patient Who had Unchanged Tie String of the T-Cannula.

A 64-year old woman who underwent lung transplantation and had T-cannula contracted classic scabies from her daughter. The patient was treated with 5% permethrin 10 times and had two consecutive negative follow-up microscopic examinations. However, the patient had recurrent symptoms and diagnosed with recurrent classic scabies 22 days after the last treatment. Unchanged tie string and unapplied topical agent around the T-cannula skin lesion may be reasons for recurrence. Thus, accurate application of topical treatment and changing the tie string of the t-cannula is needed to prevent a recurren…

Use of a High-Flow Nasal Cannula in a Child With a Functional Single Ventricle and Difficult Airway.

Inducing anesthesia and securing the airway without disrupting the patient's hemodynamic state are challenging in pediatric patients with a functional single ventricle (FSV). Here, the authors report effective use of a high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) as a tool in providing oxygen supplementation for airway management in pediatric FSV patients with a history of a difficult airway. A female patient, aged 5 years 7 months, was admitted for extracardiac conduit Fontan procedure. The patient had a history of multiple failed attempts at endotracheal intubation and was diagnosed with retrognathia and …

Predictors of success of high-flow nasal cannula in the treatment of acute hypoxemic respiratory failure.

BACKGROUND: High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy is used in the treatment of acute respiratory failure (ARF) and is both safe and effective in reversing hypoxemia. In order to minimize mortality and clinical complications associated to this practice, a series of tools must be developed to allow early detection of failure. The present study was carried out to: (i)examine the impact of respiratory rate (RR), peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2), ROX index (ROXI=[SpO2/FiO2]/RR) and oxygen inspired fraction (FiO2) on the success of HFNC in patients with hypoxemic ARF; and (ii)analyze the length o…

Imaging of an enterovaginal fistula with flexible colposcopy, an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography cannula and radiographic screening.

The diagnosis of a rectovaginal or enterovaginal fistula is mostly made by a careful historical of a faecal vaginal discharge. When a rectovaginal fistula is low, an examination will demonstrate it with ease. However, when there is a high and small fistula into the vault or the fornix of the vagina, traditional methods of small bowel enema and barium enema may not demonstrate the fistula. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging may demonstrate a fistula but not the nature of the bowel involved. Vaginography has been the most successful imaging method to date. Demonstrating an enterovaginal f

A single bicaval venous cannula used for optimization of endoscopic robotically assisted procedures of the heart.

Robotically assisted heart operation is one of the minimally invasive approaches that have revolutionized many surgical procedures. Robotic procedures on the heart, however, are by no means routine, and their optimization requires development of new instruments and techniques. Described here is the robotically assisted use in a sheep model of a new peripherally inserted bicaval venous cannula in the totally endoscopic closure of atrial septal defect. The exposure of the surgical target area was successful with no obstructions in the surgical view. The cannula shows sufficient flow characterist…
