A 7-month-old domestic medium hair cat presented with facial asymmetry affecting the bony and soft tissue structures of the right side of the head including the maxilla, nose, eye and pinna of the ear. Additionally, neurological dysfunction of the facial and vestibulocochlear nerves on the affected side was present. A congenital malformation affecting the first and second embryologic pharyngeal arches was suspected. This is the first case of hemifacial microsomia of likely congenital origin reported in a cat.

CASE HISTORY: A 5-month-old domestic shorthair kitten with a history of chronic left unilateral nasal discharge was examined.
CLINICAL FINDINGS: Endoscopy and computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a complete membranous obstruction of the left nasal choana, confirming congenital unilateral choanal atresia. In addition, congenital hydrocephalus was detected on CT. Nasopharyngoscopy was performed for confirmation and treatment of choanal atresia.

Non-keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma of the trachea was diagnosed in an 11-year-old domestic shorthaired cat suffering from progressive cough and dyspnoea. The tumour was characterized by immunohistochemical expression of cytokeratins and focal expression of vimentin. The cat was exposed historically to high concentrations of environmental cigarette smoke and this may have been a contributory aetiological factor in the genesis of this tumour.

A 10 year-old castrated male Domestic Short-hair cat with a history of chronic bilateral keratitis was referred for assessment of a red, elevated mass involving the left cornea. The rapid growth of the mass, over a month period in combination with pronounced vascularization and invasion of the corneal surface suggested an aggressive inflammatory or neoplastic process.
