A case of a huge, self-contained cyst of pseudomyxoma peritonei arising from the rupture of a benign cystadenoma of the appendix is reported. Curative surgical removal involved both small bowel and right colon resection. The pathologic spectrum of the appendiceal mucoceles, from mucosal hyperplasia to benign cystadenoma and malignant cystadenocarcinoma, is presented. The variants of pseudomyxoma peritonei (benign-malignant, localized-diffuse) are discussed and correlated with the appendiceal lesions. Clinicopathologic relationships and treatment options also are covered.

Solitary fibrous tumour (SFT), previously denominated as haemangiopericytoma, is a rare, spindle cell neoplasm that was first described in the thoracic pleura. Granular cell tumors are uncommon in the gastrointestinal tract. They are often found incidentally during colonoscopic examination performed for other reasons as they are frequently asymptomatic and benign. They usually present as submucosal lesions that can be endoscopically resected. The final diagnosis depends on histopathological findings. We present the case of a 47-year-old man that underwent an endoscopic resection of several polyps at the time of colonoscopy with nonspecific complaints and family history of colorectal carcinoma.

Primary eosinophilic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract are increasingly being recognised in adults. Bosinophilic colitis is even less understood and presents with highly variable symptoms depending on the depth of mucosal involvement. Malrotation of gut is a congenital anomaly and patients usually present in childhood. Occasionally it may present in adulthood. Patients are usually asymptomatic when malrotation of gut is detected during investigations or operation. Also, it can cause longstanding abdominal symptoms and volvulus of gut. Rarely malrotation of gut may present with gastrointestinal neoplasm. We present a 60 year old female with carcinoma caecum along with intestinal malrotation.

Colonic ameboma is a rare inflammatory pseudo-tumor of the colon that can mimic cancer development. This case was located in the cecum and appeared malignant from a macroscopic view. Accordingly a right hemicolectomy was performed, followed by an end-to-side ileocolic anastomosis. The pathology study enabled us to correct the diagnosis and affirm its amebic origin.

Abdominal actinomycosis as an aetiological cause of acute abdomen in immunocompetent patients is considered to be very rare. The authors present a case of a young patient with acute appendicitis in the terrain of specific colitis imitating caecal tumour. Especially nowadays, in the era of globalization, it would be an unnecessary mistake not to think of this aetiological unit when the pain and tenderness in the right hypogastrium with signs of peritonism are expressed.

Intussusception is a rare occurrence in the adult population with most of the cases seen during the childhood period. Compared with the pediatric intussusceptions, there is more often an underlying cause in adults. Lipoma as a lead point for colonic intussusception is rare. Ultrasound may be helpful in the diagnosis, but computed tomography is more reliably used for differential diagnosis. An adult patient with colo-colonic intussusception diganosed with ultrasound and confirmed with computed tomography is presented.

Capsule endoscopy is a new technique for the study of small intestine particularly in cases of obscure gastro-intestinal bleeding or chronic iron-deficiency anemia. In our study we present a case of 62 years-old man with a chronic iron-deficiency anaemia developed at least six months before and refractory to iron therapy. A 50 year old woman with a 20 year history of Crohn's disease underwent laparotomy which revealed extensive disease in the small and large bowel, and this was resected. Gross examination of the resected bowel showed features of Crohn's disease as well as a polypoid tumour in the caecum. Histopathological examination of the tumour showed it to be an infiltrating mixed adenocarcinoma/carcinoid tumour arising in a tubulovillous adenoma. Carcinoma of the cecum, the third most common location for malignancy of the large bowel, was examined with attention centered upon cecal cancers producing obstruction. Reviewing 136 patients revealed 11 obstructing lesions (8.1%) presenting as distal small bowel obstructions. The mean age of the patients was 74 years.
