The treatment of so-called "marker-positive" pure seminoma is still a controversial subject. We report on 32 cases of seminoma treated within 2 years. In these we measured beta-HCG and AFP in a cubital vein and in the spermatic cord veins. While 78% of the patients affected had elevated beta-HCG levels in the spermatic cord, in only 25% elevated beta-HCG levels were found in a cubital vein. This shows the markedly higher sensitivity of marker evaluation in spermatic cord veins. The authors examined the localization and behavior of beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG)-positive cells in human gastric noncancerous mucosa and in gastric malignant tumors, using immunohistochemistry and the anti-beta-HCG antibody. Fifteen patients with laparoscopically diagnosed tubal pregnancy and constant or rising plasma beta-hCG levels were treated with prostaglandin F2 alpha and prostaglandin E2. Prostaglandin F2 alpha (5 mgms diluted in 10 cc of isotonic sodium solution) was injected transabdominally with a 22 gauge spinal needle during laparoscopy into the Fallopian tube. Five cases of non-molar trophoblastic disease including one placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT), two exaggerated placental sites and two choriocarcinomas were compared with each other and with normal chorionic villi and placental site. This involved light microscopic, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural studies. Cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy (CSEP) is a very rare form of ectopic pregnancy in which implantation occurs at the site of the previous cesarean scar with low or absent beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels. It has various differential diagnoses on gross and microscopic examination. A delay in the identification and management of this condition may lead to life-threatening complications. Here, we discuss the incidence and clinicopathological features of chronic CSEP, its types, and differential diagnoses.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the relationship between serum β-human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) levels and early pregnancy outcomes in women who became pregnant using assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs).
METHODS: In this study, we retrospectively analyzed 523 pregnancies after ART use, with respect to the early clinical outcomes based on the serum β-HCG levels. The significance of using serum β-HCG levels to predict outcomes in early pregnancy was evaluated by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and cutoff values of serum β-HCG.
