Circumscribed choroidal hemangiomas are benign vascular hamartomas without systemic associations. Generally, they are orange-red elevated masses, which are found posterior to the equator. Lesions are usually solitary and unilateral. Overlying subretinal fluid, serous retinal detachment and cystoid macular edema are common findings. Intravenous fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, ultrasonography, optical coherence tomography and enhanced depth imaging are helpful ancillary tests for diagnosis of circumscribed choroidal hemangiomas. Asymptomatic circumscribed choroidal hemang…

We present a unique case of disseminated tuberculosis presenting initially in the eye solely as a choroidal mass without any inflammation, mimicking choroidal metastasis. A 19-year-old girl presented with a large choroidal mass lesion in the right eye. Systemic examination revealed axillary lymphadenopathy. A fundus fluorescein angiography, positron emission tomography scan, abdominal ultrasonography and raised biochemical markers such as serum CA-125 pointed towards the diagnosis of choroidal metastases with primary in the ovaries. Fine needle aspiration cytology of the adnexal mass and ascit…

Inflammation plays a key role in the induction of choroidal neovascular membranes (CNV). This explains why each form of posterior uveitis may lead to CNV formation. Diseases like presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome (POHS), multifocal choroiditis (MFC) or punctate inner choroidopathy (PIC) carry a high risk of CNV creation. Inflammatory processes mostly cause classical membranes. Because of the classical membrane form, smaller membrane size and the younger age of the patients' inflammatory membranes are often better treatable than membranes in AMD patients. In the times before VEGF inhibiti…

PURPOSE: To describe a patient with metastatic choroidal paraganglioma that was locally controlled with radiotherapy.
DESIGN: Interventional clinicopathologic case report.
PARTICIPANT: One patient with metastatic choroidal paraganglioma.
METHODS: Interventional clinicopathologic case report and systematic search of the literature.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Description of clinicopathologic features, treatment methods, and outcome.
RESULTS: A 50-year-old man had a nonpigmented atypical choroidal mass with secondary retinal detachment in the left eye. After incisional biopsy, the diagnosis of p…

Circumscribed choroidal hemangioma is an uncommon, benign vascular tumor manifesting as an orange-red mass in the posterior pole of the eye. Serous retinal detachment accounts for decreased vision in most patients. Diagnosis of this tumor is challenging with many patients initially misdiagnosed with choroidal melanoma or metastasis. Several ancillary tests such as ultrasonography, fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, and magnetic resonance imaging help differentiate this tumor from other simulating lesions. Asymptomatic lesions should be observed, but visually threatening or…

Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy seems to be a distinct clinical entity that should be differentiated from other types of CNV associated with AMD and other known choroidal degenerative, inflammatory, and ischemic disorders. The principle abnormality seen in PCV, notably the branching vascular network and polypoidal structures at the borders of the lesion, seem to be unique to the disorder. In patients with serosanguineous detachment of the pigment epithelium, particularly in those with increased risk factors such as African American or Asian race, ICG should be performed to evaluate the choro…
